If you lost your phone/bag whilst out, how would you………

Thank you again for these further comments, it is food for thought isnt it. Its on my To Do List to sort out a solution, but ???? not sure what the answer is as we wouldn't want a key safe, no neighbours we would be able to leave a key with, family not local and I just cant seem to get my head around remembering mobile phone numbers. Of course I can remember my Mums Divi no. and our defunct landline no!!, still looking like a tattoo is the answer lol.

I once lost my handbag, containing my purse , train ticket and phone at an exhibition at Olympia. I realised I must have left it at one of the stands and retraced my steps but couldn’t find it. In a panic I went to the organiser’s office and they asked me for my mobile number so that they could ring it. I was so embarrassed that I couldn’t remember it. The only number I could remember was my DH at work but he was out of the office! However, to my great relief someone eventually handed it in, I’d left it on a stand I’d forgotten I’d visited!
A friend of my daughter’s told me afterwards that she always keeps her train ticket and some money in her sock or shoe. I wish I’d done that!

My neighbour and I decided years ago to hide spare keys to our shared entrance door which leads from the street and I can't tell you how many times we've both used them! We also know where each other's spare front door keys are in case we get locked out. I did lose my phone once and since then have copied my sons' numbers into an address book. I also carry their numbers in a little bag that holds my phone and purse across my chest.

We have a padlocked gate from the main road as we're in the town centre and once the padlock seized up and I was trapped inside and had to call the fire brigade. After a large fire engine came and several firemen had cut the padlock and let me out the chief said, 'That will be £700 please,' which did give me food for thought. We're planning on buying our own bolt cutters.

A brilliant thread. Its good to think ahead. Many years ago I accidently put my phone in the washing machine! This was before cloud back up. Since then I make sure important numbers are in a good old fashioned address book.

I dont drive and so always have means to get somewhere in an emergency. I used to keep taxi fare-now I have an account with a firm. Trusted neighbours have front door keys. So,I could get home and get inside.
I would add if thinking of getting a key safe ensure the Pin is nothing age related. When my parents had one installed this was advised against as a determined burglar will try luck with years they think relevant,1940 etc!
I can see why drivers may keep information in car-but what if your car keys were amongst things taken?
All we can do is plan as best we can by having means to get home and into our home. In my experience people are often also very kind and helpful.

This really made me stop and think. I'm so used to just pressing the name of the person I want that I realised that I don't know the actual numbers of my next of kin.
I have now bought a laundry pen and written the number for my husband and daughter on fabric that I now pin into a pocket of what ever I am wearing.

Regarding money, I once left my purse at home, I went into Santander where we have one of our accounts, I asked if I could have some money and they just took my name and date of birth and gave me what I asked for. However our other bank HSBC could not help as they now have no counter service.

Lol I'd play the poor oldish woman and hoped someone took pity on me. Other than that I don't know. My daughter has a fob so I can get into my block and I have a smart lock, my difficulties would be getting home.

Leave a spare with your neighbour or/and in a safe hiding place. Always keep at least £100 cash at home.
Take a taxi home . Get your house keys from your neighbours or your safe hiding place - open the door - get the money from inside the house, pay the taxi driver then get to your landline
and ring the police .

Be careful of pockets as they may be picked. A few weeks ago we were in M&S food department. Noticed a woman right behind us but didn’t think anything of it until we went out and just as we were about to cross a road she suddenly appeared and sort of stumbled into my husband and spent a short while apologising. It looked suspicious so I immediately asked dh to check his pockets. She hadn’t managed to take anything but I remembered her being close behind us as dh was paying in cash. I’m sure she was noting where he replaced his wallet.

i would go home and call my son on my house phone and he would track my phone, he has had a tracker on my phone for about 5 years, my mum was upset that he does this but i don't have a problem with it. i use a walker when out and my handbag is over the handles at the front, someone would need to move me out of the way to get to my bag, i also have a shopping bag and my keys are in that.

I have my families/friends contact numbers in my car. I very rarely take a bag unless going out to socialise. My mobile usually goes in my bra or an inside pocket. This is not ideal I know but I would like to see someone trying to get it.

It’s all well and good to memorise telephone numbers, but lots of people don’t answer unfamiliar numbers, as I know to my cost. What would we have done years ago before mobile phones and credit cards? Just find a phone box and ask for a reverse call. So much easier in many ways!

That is so true.
Then you have the scammers, ‘I’ve have lost my phone’, texts, so people are reluctant to reply back.

My brain is full of codes and numbers. I live in a flat...code for gate access, bins, bike shed etc.pin numbers for bank cards. So I haven't made an effort to remember mobile number. I've tried but it just won't stick. Overload me thinks!

I know DHs number better than mine - I have often given it instead <LOL>

He would be able to track my phone.

As to my bag, that would be a disaster to replace all of my cards. I do keep a £10 note in my phone case.

Nothing’s foolproof but a friend left her bag in a restaurant and the staff found the card and rang her contact number.
On another occasion a young lady was stranded in town as her phone was dead and she didn’t know any contact numbers (which instigated the production of these cards)

I put my name & phone number in my suitcase, plus a tracker.
Can’t be prepared enough can we.
My dad once forgot where he lived after a trip out (that was start of dementia) I had to pick him up from the police station. After that I would put his name, address & our phone numbers on sheet of paper & put in his top pocket 😞

If it was just my phone I maybe wouldn't notice for a couple of days, until I wanted to check my walking report. Losing my bag is a different matter. I would still have my keys (in my pocket), but my cardholder and best lipstick and fold-up shopping bag would be gone. No access to banking details on my phone, but debit card in my cardholder..

The phone is in a wallet, along with some cash and a bank card. For the amount of time it’s in there I’m not unduly worried tbh 😀

My key safe key will only get me into the back garden, then I have another there for the house (plan B) it’s always best to have one !

Key safe at home, and my phone stuffed down the side of my bra does the trick. I don’t carry a handbag.
If I have pockets, useful for lippy and tissue.
Job done 😀

That is ok but isn’t there small amounts of radiation coming from the phone 🤔

Best thing is a small cross body bag that you aren’t going to leave any where.

They would have to flag a taxis down. Sure taxis would tip them off at home. Obviously keys will be in the handbag so how do they get in the house to retrieve the money 🤦‍♀️
