Petition to stop the EARLY RELEASE for PC Harpers killers

I think it utterly disgusting that PC Harpers ‘grinning’ killers are being released early after only 6 years.
The graphic details of his death are too harrowing to post on here.
The newly married pc had his whole life to look forward to, but thanks to these monsters he was dragged to his death.
There is a petition which you can sign & donate.
These men should have been given life in my opinion, without parole.

It looks to me as if this is being rushed through, without the time and required due diligence to differentiate between manslaughter convictions.

Some cases are legally considered more blameworthy than others so if I've understood this correctly, why are all those convicted of manslaughter eligible for early release?

For goodness sake, it’s not being rushed through. Teams of people have been working on it since they were elected in 2024. It’s really really complex because we live in a country that has a little inconvenience called the tune of law and due process. Whatever happens it shouldn’t just be on a wave of emotion - we’re better than that. I’m
sick of people who think there’s an easy solution to this if only the government cared. Where were these people during the 14 years of criminal neglect of the CJS?

Where is the evidence that our government feel such little regard for our police force Allsorts? Abiding my by the legislation doesn’t mean no regard, it means regard for the legislation within which the govt must opersate.

Tuliptree is absolutely right to point to the disregard, lack of necessary investment in our CJS by the previous government in over 14 years . The research facts are undeniable. Productive Early Years involvement leads to fewer teen pregnancies, supports struggling parents, reduces teen pregnancies and anti social behaviour. Alternatives to prison, a less punitive prison environment equals less reoffending as well as prisons safer for inmates and staff

Instead we had years of unnecessary austerity that contributed to greater social problems especially drug related offences. When will our tv , msm, print media start honest reflection on research based practice, rehab v retaliation

What AB said was just words. Afraid it sums him up. Its disgraceful that our government feel such little regard for all those policemen who daily work so hard keeping us safe. Shame on them. My heart goes out to PC Harman’s family. They will never be the same again and a lovely young brave man lost his future. I hope his family know the country are behind them

I wonder what bright spark sat down and thought “our prisons are full and we need more space. I know, let’s release really dangerous prisoners.”💡💡💡💡

No bright spark. That isn’t what is happening . But you know that.

This is an excellent explanation from the Institute of Government an independent non partisan think tank . 5000 are due to be released in the 10 months from October

There seems to be a set of arbitrary rules deciding who gets early release. Are the numbers so great that early release cannot be decided in each individual case?

It started as a serious thread and I believe it still is. However you do come across as morally superior and that your opinions are the only correct ones. You appear Tuliptree to believe that you are upholding a higher moral code to others. It would be gracious if you could allow others opinions/beliefs to be heard ,without jumping on them immediately and dismissing them because you don't agree with them.

You’re a bit cross and being quite morally superior yourself methinks. It’s true I believe due process and the rule of law is the bedrock of a decent society. Any yes I think that opinion is the correct one. I can’t think of a decent society which contradicts that view. I’ll continue to challenge views I disagree with and especially those based on misinformation. Anyone else can do the same. Or are you trying to establish new guidelines?

Why would anybody think that when the PM is officially on his holiday that he would be working every minute? I sincerely hope he isn’t, like everybody else he deserves a holiday, with only very major crises interrupting his free time.

Err...what would be the point of a holiday if he's working full-time? Admirable blind faith.

Really? Is that a serious question?

If Burnham is working every minute, which I very much doubt, he is doing it in isolation, which is wrong. This is a serious issue and needs far more than one untried PM's input. Isolating himself from his colleagues is not a good move.
Starmer worked with Corbyn, undermined him and ultimately expelled him. Two years later, Starmer is ousted from his premiership by close colleagues, apparently organised by Morgan McSweeney according to a new book which I have not yet seen so cannot verify. Those who piloted Burnham into position will wish to retain control.
We shall see.

Of course he’s not working every minute but he is PM every minute and of course he’s not working in isolation. Why do you think it’s ok to make such stuff up? He’ll have the most sophisticated state of the art communication stuff with him and there’ll be transport arrangements plans in place that would whisk him home swiftly in certain circumstances. Where do you think he actually is? In a cave in Outer Mongolia with no WiFi and a 50 mile trek to the nearest bike hire place followed by a tour de Mongolia challenge before reaching the helipad? Honestly. Why do you want him to fail?

No it wouldn’t be karma. If you break the law and are punished for it, it’s a result of the CJS and not because of the tooth fairy/ Father Christmas or whoever

Plevey08 Sat 08-Aug-26 09:50:00

They could be told it's for their own safety. The condemnation is growing. They'll probably be outraged and start a fight, hopefully with each other (don't know if they are in the same prison) Go back to court for causing disarray and further sentencing. Now that would be karma.

Tuliptree Sat 08-Aug-26 09:45:01

Well said Casdon. I’d also add that I’m sure he’s working every day on holiday even if not full time.

Casdon Sat 08-Aug-26 09:36:29

The government should not make exceptions just because of the attitude of these two men when they were sentenced. Extending the number of prisoners not eligible for early release is a serious consideration, and it will take time to evaluate how the changes can be made so that everybody who has committed similar crimes is punished in the same way. To suggest that the PM should cancel his holiday because of this, when there are no doubt many people who actually have the relevant information and are working through the consequences, is frankly ridiculous.

Tuliptree Sat 08-Aug-26 09:20:47

I don’t doubt for one moment that AB is working atm and working on this. He has the responsibility of trying to find a solution that is not just driven by emotion . My guess would be that what the govt want is to be able to take the whole category of manslaughter cases out of the early release scheme. I think that’s about 470. So it’s about finding other groups of prisoners that could be released instead -women, foreign prisoners, IPP prisoners. None of this can be done overnight - and the last 2 categories pose particular problems. But I can’t believe for one minute that AB and his ministers aren’t taking it all extremely seriously.
As for karma, the idea that people reap what they sow, I have just one question - what colour would you like your unicorn to be?

Shel1951 Sat 08-Aug-26 09:12:00

Personally I think all manslaughter offences should serve their full sentence

Plevey08 Sat 08-Aug-26 09:06:53

Oops! In the snugness wiped off their faces at being told they won't be released early
