Home Responsibility claims

Unfortunately you have been rather slow to claim this.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) LEAP exercise (Legal Entitlements and Administrative Practices) was a systematic review launched in January 2021 to find and fix historical State Pension underpayments which included Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP).

The annual report of the National Insurance Fund for 2025/26 states that the LEAP exercise has now closed with all outstanding cases cleared in 2025/2026 and no remaining provision at year end. The HRP LEAP exercise has now concluded with remaining cases managed through business-as-usual processes. A provision of £22 million remains at 31 March 2026 (£30 million in 2024 to 2025) to reflect the estimated cost of resolving outstanding cases.

In other words, there is no longer a dedicated team looking at cases and, as many of us will have experienced, “business-as-usual” with the DWP can be very slow.

Six months with no action at all isn’t acceptable. Write to your MP to get this moving.

I also submitted a claim several months ago but not heard anything. It doesn’t surprise me.

Have any other GN's claimed for the years they were caring for their children?
I submitted my claim in April and when I rang yesterday for an update I was told they had received it but it had not yet been looked at.
Has anyone had any success with this and how long did it take?
