The Internet tells me to repot in Spring, but I would like to repot mine now. It's quite a big standard plant and need a bigger pot. Has anyone any advice for me?

I'd go and do it now. Large pot. We have one that started off as a cutting from a B and Q pot plant and is now a full sized tree, in the ground, which needs cutting back frequently.

Yes, keep it in a very large pot.
Ours started as a tiny bay tree in a pot which I was going to trim into a nice shape but at the time I couldn't afford a huge stone or terracotta pot so planted it in the ground and it needs pruning every year!

Although you'd usually re-pot in spring, the best time to move shrubs etc is autumn so logically it should be ok.

If you are in the UK I would definitely be happy to replant now.
They are as tough as old boots in my experience. Not fussy , any peat free compost and water for a few weeks.. Job done.

Great advice. I've a lovely new massive pot I want to plant up, so I'll go for it. Thank you all.
