A friend has drinks with her neighbour over the fence. I can't see any difference.

I thought that, from Sunday we can meet in groups of 10.

Thank you Callistemon. I certainly wouldn’t put anyone at risk and I understand about the transmission of ‘germs’, barrier nursing etc.

Callistemon Tue 26-May-20 10:03:34

I agree, Furret.

Yes go and enjoy a little chat and a coffee, just use common sense.

That’s exactly the opposite of my thinking Hetty. Aren’t we oldies being like sheep when we obey illogical lockdown rules?

Seriously - I could have my cleaner back. I could use public transport. I can go to supermarkets and have takeaways delivered. I can go to the park. I can walk along a pavement.

These are all situations where some people fail to observe safe distancing and put me at risk ... but these are the rules we are told to obey - even though they carry risk.

But I cannot ask my family, who would only be a group of 3-4, to come into my garden and sit well away from us? We offer no drinks or toileting. I’d say this carries minimal risk (until the children return to school) and is far safer than some of the activities it is legal to do.

Wouldn’t you agree?

People really are like sheep. it's a case of 'Well, they're doing it - so I'm going to do it too'. Quite pathetic lame excuses will continue until a family member is lost. I know somebody who's lost five family members. She never goes out.

I could manage 10 bob at a pinch.

MerylStreep Mon 25-May-20 23:02:12

Thank you for the support girls. Fortunately the police here in Southend are too busy going after the county lines drug dealing scroats.
All contributions gratefully received, though, just in case ?

Callistemon Mon 25-May-20 22:43:34

a tenner
Goodness!
I can manage 2s and 6d.

She's worth every penny.

Chewbacca Mon 25-May-20 22:34:45

I'll chip in a tenner for the "Free MerrylStreep" campaign too because her barrister can then act for me. I've spent this afternoon sat in my back garden, chatting to a friend whilst having afternoon tea. And I have no regrets! grin

Jane10 Mon 25-May-20 22:27:56

shock is that really a photo from today? If so. Yikes. We're all doomed.

Furret Mon 25-May-20 21:11:07

Have you seen the photos of the crowded beaches today?

Go and have your coffee and enjoy it.

Callistemon Mon 25-May-20 21:08:25

Count me in Jane10!

Jane10 Mon 25-May-20 15:35:25

Ooh good MerylStreep. Do keep us informed. We can form the 'Free MerylStreep campaign!

MerylStreep Mon 25-May-20 15:18:56

Hetty58
They can fine me but I won't be paying it. I will hire a good barrister and take it to court. Could be interesting.

Callistemon Mon 25-May-20 15:05:13

Out

Callistemon Mon 25-May-20 15:04:57

We're going it shortly to sit out on the road with suitably distanced neighbours. I may even sit on my front lawn.

It's not even 250 yards away, let alone 250 miles.

The message is now quite clear.

Puzzler61 Mon 25-May-20 14:29:01

Official line I believe is “No”,
but if your instincts are that it’s in your best interests to do it, do it.
Keep 2 metres apart.

I don’t think you’d be reported or fined colournanny.

Jane10 Mon 25-May-20 14:28:06

Worth it to me!

Hetty58 Mon 25-May-20 14:23:15

No, you can meet in a park or public space - but not in a private garden, £100 fine.

Niobe Mon 25-May-20 13:29:40

I was out last Saturday evening and drove past about 6 elderly people outside in a front garden all socially distancing and having wine. It’s allowed! Anyway lockdown has been lifted by Cummings. Apparently you can legally follow your instincts.

heath480 Mon 25-May-20 12:38:41

Of course you can.

sodapop Mon 25-May-20 12:37:22

I agree that its ok as well. Outside in the fresh air, sitting apart etc. We have to start taking small steps forward at some point. Enjoy your coffee with friends colournanny

Cs783 Mon 25-May-20 11:16:24

Colournanny It looks ok to me according to gov guidelines 1.1 bullet point 2 Sounds like your friend understands these guidelines. Take hand sanitiser?
