In memory of Phoenix (Rachel)

I cannot look at a gammon without thinking of Phoenix a missed member on here.

Such poignant words which resonate with so many now on GN.

A lovely poem - thank you for posting it Maw. I lost my mum one Christmas many years ago but even after all this time I find this a particularly difficult time of year.

I have heard so much about Phoenix and the gammon - I would love someone to post in on GN in honour of a very wise and witty woman and for us to remember her with a smile.

Christmas is going to be tough this year, just as it was last year, knowing it would be DH's last and the year before when DD had just died.

I know I'll have a lovely time with the family and it's just one day but I'll be glad when it's over.

Cooking the Christmas gammon always falls to me every year so I'll pin 'Cursing the Gammon' to the fridge door and raise a glass to Phoenix

Lovely poem. Too often those of us who have lost someone put on a front to "join in the fun". Since being widowed I have spent all but 2 Christmas Days alone - that way I can have a little cry before remembering all the lovely fun times I had with DH.

We pin the smile on don’t we- but inside it’s different
