This was posted on Facebook in Rachel. (Phoenix ) ‘s memory this morning by her friend Hollie.
I thought those who knew. Phoenix and miss her but also all who are missing a loved one might like to share it

If Christmas is hard ,
If you’ve lost someone dear.
Just look in your heart,
And you’ll know they’re still here.

The star in the sky,
The light falling snow.
The robin outside,
It seems like they know.

If this is a time,
When you’re struggling through.
Just do what you can,
For what matters, is you.

There’s no need to be merry,
There’s no need to be bright.
Just do what you can,
It will all be all right

Thanks Maw, for the poem. I knew Phoenix had been very ill but not that she has died. A lovely woman

Thank you for posting this. Such lovely appropriate words.
This will be my Christmas without my mum. Bittersweet as I have the joy of a new grandchild which will ease the pain a little.

A lovely poem - thank you for posting it Maw. I lost my mum one Christmas many years ago but even after all this time I find this a particularly difficult time of year.

I have heard so much about Phoenix and the gammon - I would love someone to post in on GN in honour of a very wise and witty woman and for us to remember her with a smile.

Lovely poem; I always think of late DH when I see a robin. I say "Hello Mike, have you come to keep an eye on me?"

Exactly.

A sad and happy memory.

merlotgran Thu 02-Dec-21 15:31:53

Lovely poem. Thanks, Maw.

Christmas is going to be tough this year, just as it was last year, knowing it would be DH's last and the year before when DD had just died.

I know I'll have a lovely time with the family and it's just one day but I'll be glad when it's over.

Cooking the Christmas gammon always falls to me every year so I'll pin 'Cursing the Gammon' to the fridge door and raise a glass to Phoenix wine tchgrin

Lovely poem. Too often those of us who have lost someone put on a front to "join in the fun". Since being widowed I have spent all but 2 Christmas Days alone - that way I can have a little cry before remembering all the lovely fun times I had with DH.

We pin the smile on don’t we- but inside it’s different tchsad
