Just got home from my Twixmas break

Hi everyone, hope you all had a good Christmas. Well, as I posted before Christmas I had a booked a Twixmas break for myself in a local hotel in Blackpool and I was nervous as it was my first time away on my own, but you lovely people gave me encouragement. Well I have just go back home this morning and I can honestly say I enjoyed every minute of it, it was the best decision I made since my husband passed. Everyone was so friendly, some were in a similar situation as myself but there was a good mixture of people from a lovely 97 year old lady who goes for the whole Christmas period every year to a family with a 2 year old child. The staff were helpful and friendly without being patronising, I found myself chatting to everyone and at night there was entertainment in the bar. We all joined in and let our hair down. Well I have booked myself in already for the Christmas period next year, some of the people I met will be there too. I really feel better than I have done for a while, energised and more confident. Perhaps I have just been lucky with the people I met, but I would say to anyone in the same situation thinking about doing something similar, just Do It. If I can do it anyone can and after the first time it will get easier. I will think about booking a few days away in another holiday resort, perhaps a coach tour, in the Summer. That will take that bit extra "bravery" but it is the next step.

In the meantime happy New Year to you all

It’s great that you had such a good time. You should be proud of yourself that you were brave enough to go.
It’s fantastic that you’re going again next year, planning a holiday and days out throughout the year.
If in the future I left on my own, I plan to do the same.

Well done BA69 and I'm glad you had such an enjoyable break. My husband died in April of this year after a long, horrible battle with multiple cancers. Fortunately, we managed to have a few lovely holidays together in 2023 including one in Crete which I adored. I've just submitted my booking application to spend a week in Crete doing an Iyengar Yoga holiday in September. My husband would have been delighted for me. Fingers and toes crossed I'm accepted as I'll probably be the oldest there!

So pleased that you had a good time - could I ask the name of the hotel as I have just been to Blackpool and, although the hotel was warm and comfy and the staff very friendly the food was absolutely awful and quite ruined the stay.

BA69. Your post has really cheered me up.
