Birdsong's guest blog post looks at life ambition.

Career choice was very limited for many young women in the 50s and 60s. Were you able to follow your dreams? What would you have chosen if you had the chance? And do you still have ambitions you aim to fulfil?

jeni - Oxford and theology. Doctoring has a sort of missionary bent to it as well though, doesn't it? wink grin.

Good heavens fieldwake that's amazing, I think you've done it all. You must be very grown up - time to regress. Join nanachrissy and me - although I think I will have to wait until the air warms up a bit to go knickerless wink

In very hot weather I sometimes at work went knickerless.-under a very sedate exterior dress.
It's also a good idea if you're suffering from thrush!

I secretly dabbled with the idea of interior design but no one took me seriously in late '50s early '60s. So I went into nursing - for all the right reasons of course! I was impressed with the good-looking doctors during the open day at the teaching hospital. I fancied myself in a red-lined cloak... and finally I was won over by the fish and chips, apple pie and ice cream lunch which was on offer that day! It wasn't my dream career but it was interesting if hard work and I think I became a good nurse smile
