This was a great read the kids loved it and wanted to start it over again as soon as we had finished! Full of laughs and sadness but a great tale.

grin Thank you so much. I have much to thank wooly hats for today. It's been so cold and windy here. Mine kept my ears warm and Lara's chose me...I feel like Harry Potter. Ooops...wrong author. I'm so excited, I can't wait for the parcel to arrive. Thank you Gransnet flowers

Oh David Walliams - What have you done? Gangsta Granny is brilliant. I finished it in a couple of hours, had to approve of it for reading to the grandchildren you understand. I've since read it to two separate groups of GC aged between five and eight. All of them loved it and found it highly amusing. I offered it to another GS aged 11 but he already has it and said how much he had enjoyed it. The five year old was a little obsessed by Granny's death and that instigated a long Q&A session. Simple answers only, I must add. We then trotted off to the cemetery where more questions followed. Hopefully I gave the right answers as parents haven't contacted me with any come back or reports of nightmares. Any book that opens up communication and understanding is excellent and David Walliams Gangsta Granny certainly did this for us.

My grandchildren love the idea of me being naughty. A fun book that suits quite a few ages & the title is intriguing. Illustrations clever too. What a talented man David is.

I haven't read his books yet but know he is a great writer and have been reading rave reviews about his children's books for a while now; I also saw one written by him on tele recently and thought it was brilliant so I would love to win a set of his books to share with my nieces and nephews as well as my grandson. Fingers crossed for a little bit of luck to come my way now

I haven't received any books to review but would dearly love to win a signed boxset...

I would have fallen into the aisle laughing if I had been sitting next to an aisle while I read this. Highly amusing with a wonderful story and several moving messages for all generations by the end. I loved the simple but fun illustrations too. Now all I have to do is read it to my grandson. Sure he'll love it.

Hi, Thanks for my copy!

DGD1 (7) is very keen to read it and will do so over the Easter Holiday when she is here. She loves the illustrations and has scanned the story ..so we are building up the excitement to read it!

Thanks so much for my copy. I took a peek inside and couldn't stop myself reading it through. Can't wait for the grandchildren to sleepover when it will be granny's choice as to what we read.....I have a granddaughter of 7 and a grandson of 31/2.....

I brought The Boy in a Dress and Mr Stink out to Oz for the 9 year old. He loves them. I think DW is great - a bit of an enigma and not quite of this world. I like a bit of eccentric. I thought his swim up the Thames was amazing. DD1 lives at the origin of the Thames and DD3 further up at Maidenhead, which made the whole event more interesting. Will get Gangsta Granny once home in the UK and send it out to Oz. ( books are ridiculously expensive here - equiv of £20 for a paperback shock)

Thank you for my copy of Gangsta Granny. I shall read it first and then read it aloud to the grandchildren when they sleep over. I used to read Roald Dahl to their mum and this brings back great memories.

Thank you so much for the book. My eldest daughter read it and loved it. She said it was "both funny and exciting at the same time". I have just started reading it to my 6 year old. I really admire David Walliams - he is a modern day Roald Dahl.

Where's mine? Judging from earlier comments, sounds great.

The man is a genius, he has a mind not quite of this world. He's funny, he pushes himself, he can think differently and yet be always so engaging. Long may he continue to publish childrens' fiction.

wallers5 Fri 22-Mar-13 11:46:37

A wonderful title, I think my grandchildren quite like the thought of me being naughty! They loved it & they know him as a guy who does crazy things like swimming in the dirty Thames for charity. Thanks for the copy. I have 5 avid grandchildren readers, so it is very popular.
