The Riversingers is my son's book. Wow, I'm stunned. Very happy for him and only slightly envy

Aka Tue 18-Mar-14 08:13:16

A great book for toddlers is 'The Night Pirates' by Peter Harris and Deborah Allwright. Quick to read, beautiful illustrates, appeals to both sexes, raises questions from the little ones and a great favourite with my 2, 3 and 4 year old GC.

Wow, you've got your hands full Soutra. My youngest one is 2 and she's a ball of energy!

Soutra Sat 11-Jan-14 23:22:07

Runs in the family then? My DGSs are only 3 1/2 and 2, but what wonderful books lie ahead for them!

Very excited for him but, yes, I was proud of him anyway, and his brother, like you Tegan. We should be shouldn't we.

hummingbird Fri 03-Jan-14 20:34:27

Wow, Broom! That's wonderful!

Tegan Fri 03-Jan-14 20:10:20

I'm proud of my kids anyway but if one of them wrote a book like that I'd be so proud I'd burst!

Someone says Riversingers is in the Saturday Times best childen's books list too. Has anyone seen it? We haven't and nor has Tom.

What's the shortening for a son? I haven't worked out all these DS and so on yet.

broomsticks Thu 05-Dec-13 16:05:03

Well it's 9 upwards. I think quite a lot of adults are reading it, even non-biased ones. grin

Aka Thu 05-Dec-13 15:23:24

Thank Broom

annodomini Thu 05-Dec-13 12:22:05

I've just been reading the first few pages of The River Singers on Amazon. I love his style. The dialogues are spot on and it stopped just when it was beginning to get intriguing. I may have to get it for myself, never mind the GC!

broomsticks Thu 05-Dec-13 11:39:24

Aka it's intended for 9 upwards. Apparently, illustrated books for this age group are in.

Aka Wed 04-Dec-13 16:02:42

You must be thrilled Broomsticks. Can anyone tell me the intended age this book is aimed at please?

broomsticks Wed 04-Dec-13 15:37:08

Icyalittle I've only just worked out your name! grin

Icyalittle Sat 30-Nov-13 17:34:28

I bought River Singers earlier! Congratulations, Broomsticks I would be mega-proud.
(I buy books to read to children I teach, and also for when my GS grows, so I do read a lot of children's books).

broomsticks Sat 30-Nov-13 09:42:29

Incidentally Mumsnet gave away 50 copies. Good old Mumsnet!

broomsticks Not only did I google the book, but I also checked out a clip of the author talking about it - and well, what a lovely knowledgeable young man. Oh, and did I mention, handsome? grin

tiggypiro Fri 29-Nov-13 19:25:03

Wonderful Broomsticks !
We talked about it at the Northallerton meet-up but for the life of me I could not remember the name of the book or that of your son. Like penguinpaperback I shall get a copy to keep for them to grow into.

broomsticks Fri 29-Nov-13 15:03:31

Thanks!
It is a lovely book (not that I'm in any way biased at all grin.

penguinpaperback Fri 29-Nov-13 13:57:19

Oh Congratulations broomsticks flowers I typed the book's title into google and I've just read some wonderful reviews of your son's book. smile I have a small collection of books I'm keeping for the grandchildren to read as they grow. I want to help make reading an enjoyable pastime for life and I think I will add a copy.

whenim64 Fri 29-Nov-13 12:26:00

Congrats to your DS, broomsticks. Mr Gum books were my grandson's all-time favourite.
