my favourite book in the last couple of years was Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver. Might read it again, again.

I like Barbara Pym Stansgran, but her humour is dry and ironic, rather than soppy and tearful!
I don't like books or films which make me cry. It seems a bit of a waste of emotion somehow.

Plenty of people on Gransnet with post christmas blues. I once had a reading list which suggested cheering books. The list included authors Jill Mansell and Jasper Fforde. I like Eva Ibbotson For completely soppy tearful stuff. Any suggestions? Books which give you an excuse to cry are also good.
