Self Publishing.

This thread started out, I thought, as a clever promotional exercise for the OP's book, and I can see that that has worked. I am at a loss as to what has happened since....threads digress, and become diverted all the time, we know that, but there is more here; this thread hasn't just digressed, it has degenerated.

Pity.

As far as I'm concerned the last few posts have all been light-hearted banter Elegran and personally I'm not too keen to PM for historical reasons

However, on a more serious note, it's a pity that certain people didn't plead to 'call a halt' earlier when it would have been more appropriate leaves one wondering doesn't it....????

Good grief. This was all going on when I went to bed last night and is still raging when I return at ten past ten this morning.

Please call a halt to it, witch-hunters and witches alike. Go and prick each other in PMs, or start a separate thread to fight on. It takes two to make a quarrel and this thread has lost all semblance of a discussion of self-publishing.

No Soutra the term 'mini' is usually indicative of a smaller number. If I was to apply it to something like a coven, which of course I haven't, then as a coven consists of 13 witches or warlocks, I would suggest a 'mini coven' would be perhaps 3-4.

I suppose MacBeth's opening act much constitute a mini-coven?

Perhaps those with more experience of witchcraft would be able to answer your question more accurately, or perhaps those of a pedantic leaning could contribute to this interesting discussion

Twitter is good for promoting books. There are lots of authors, artists, photographers etc trying to get their work known on there. It reaches a lot of people.

If I CBA I might take issue with the above. Correct me if I am wrong ( and I am sure somebody will) but from what I have seen the posts on that particular thread predate Mimosa's*"subverted" self publishing thread by at least 2 months . Now that is really clever.
Who are the "usual suspects" then, this "mini coven"?? And what is wrong with their posts?

I don't think Mimosa's original thread has been lost, I have read comments from ChrisCal and others and have invited her to tell us more about the process of writing and self-publishing her book.
As an exercise in awareness raising I think it has been quite effective, I have downloaded my sample chapter as have no doubt other members and now it is down to us to see if we want to buy the book, based in what we have read.
I see the point about loss of visual impact in Kindle editions, though, illustrations are a weak point of Kindle books and if these are truly integral to the text, an alternative might be better.

I'm sorry you fell foul of the hard core thread disruptors, mimosa. They are a complete pain-in-the-proverbial with their vitriol. The rest of them merely act like children by posting stupid comments which bear no relation the the OP. Apart from a couple of posters who have first hand knowledge of the publishing world, the rest know sod all. So....carry on regardless . You have achieved something your average aspiring writer dreams about. I am in awe ��

Jane10 thank you so much for this very valuable information, I am going to look into the writer's collective possibility. I have mentioned to a couple of other very helpful people here that I don't think I will be adding much more to my original post as the post has got rather confusing to say the least.

I have only been on Gransnet for a short while but am rather confused as to where my post on Self Publishing is going, so would like to say thank you and best regards to all the other people who have joined in.
