After the mundane misery of winter, my favourite thing about summer is sitting in the garden with a good book to read, an ice-cold drink or hot fresh pot of coffee, looking at the things planted in spring blossoming and growing and watching and listening to my garden wildlife. I love swaying gently in my hammock as I read or daydream. I plan to keep a photo-journal documenting the lives of some of our regular garden visitors as there is always something of interest happening. A blackbird family we have been following for 5 generations are raising another batch of chicks, as are our favourite robin pair. Two foxes come for dinner every night and sit in the shadows waiting for the food to arrive. The squirrels seem to be very active most of the time, but every now and then I catch them napping up a tree. Since we started paying more attention to the species we plant, we have noticed a big increase in the number of pollinating insects we attract, which in turn brings in more birds, and the bats have plenty to catch in the evenings when I watch them whirring about. It's nice at the end of the day to have a BBQ, sit around the chimenea talking and throwing some treats to the foxes if they show up early (surprisingly enough they easily sniff out when BBQ is on the go! lol) Fingers crossed hoping for some sunny summer luck to come my way now as this is pretty much a dream prize for me.
