Margaret Forster

I've read all her books and enjoyed her novels as well as the non fiction. Such a great writer. At least we have one more book to look forward to.

This week's Sunday Times has a lovely article by Hunter Davies about his wife, Margaret Foster.

Loved her books .. especially some of the earlier ones .. Georgy Girl, The Travels of Maudie Tipstaff for example. A sad loss.

Loved her books although I haven't read her last one. So sorry for Hunter Davies . He will be lost without her. They were the perfectly matched couple.

I always looked forward to a new book by Margaret Forster being published and we have one more to be published on March 4th. I thought her daughters message "My lovely Mum has died" was very touching as she was a Mother and Grandmother of four as well as being a wonderful writer.

Margaret Forster was married to Hunter Davies, another author whose work I have greatly enjoyed. They had a home in the Lake District as well as London and I understod they spent six months of the year in each. Sounds ideal to me, they had the best of both worlds.

I'm with everyone else. Margaret Forster's books are so interesting (not that I've read them all - yet) but they're all very accessible and well-written. She'll be missed.

I can only say I agree with all the other comments on GN. I loved her books and have read most of them twice. She was an intelligent writer but so easy to read - her books were a real pleasure.
Her autobiography of Daphne du Maurier was a classic, I liked it because she described Cornwall as a wet and windy place to live, she described things as they were which is why she had so many devoted readers.
Very sad...

Great writer, I've read many of her books. I shall make it a mission to read the rest of them.

RIP Margaret, you given many people hours of pleasure.

Very sad to hear that, I've loved her books. Years ago I read "Have the Men had Enough" and was hooked for evermore, as well as a good read her books were always such an interesting social commentary too.

I really enjoyed all her books.
It said in the Sunday Times that she had gone into a hospice.

Whenever she had a new book out I'd reserve it at the library. A sad loss.

Yes this is very sad news. She is a favourite of mine. I really enjoyed "Lady's Maid" and her biography of Elizabeth Barrett Browning. I will miss her.

That's sad news, but not unexpected. I read some of her books about a year ago, and we had Hunter Davies on here answering questions about his writing.
I looked up both of them, and found she was ill then, and not expected to recover.

Oh I didn't know this TerriBull. She was one of my favourite authors. I've read all her books, the first one being Lady's Maid about E B Browning. Such a good writer too. Really sad.

Oh I loved her work, she was such a talented writer, and it's sad there will be no more books by her. The first one I read by her was Georgy Girl, made into a movie in the sixties, starring Lynn Redgrave and Charlotte Rampling.
