A very interesting read full of authentic period detail and tackles bullying of evacuees and racism.

Full of historical detail such as the Blitz and the siege of Malta. Some of the characters were inspired by the authors grandparents. A love story but by no means a conventional one. A bit unsure about the ending,did it all end happily or not? The romance was partly conducted by letter,which struck a chord with me as I married my pen pal after a whirlwind romance.
