Hi everyone - I’m on the lookout to find the best Children’s Books of 2017!

I’m writing an article based on recent research demonstrating that 1 in 20 children in the UK have never been exposed to a picture book, or had completely read a book themselves - how awful is that?!

So, I’m making an effort to provide other parents and their kids with ideas of what they could read over the summer months, and showing off how wide the variety of different books are available to them.

I’ve got a load of recommendations already, but I’d love to know yours/your kids favourite:
- Children’s Picture Book,
- Young Children's Book, or
- Young Adult’s / Teen’s Book

Ideally I’d love to find out about new releases and hidden gems - everyone knows The Very Hungry Caterpillar - let’s hear ‘em!

What ages are you referring to in your second paragraph?
I would assume any child going to nursery or in reception class in any school would be familiar with picture books.
How would you define 'reading a book by themselves'? A school reading book? A simple 'chapter book'? Or something more challenging?
