Blitz fiction especially that set in London

“Noonday” by Pat Barker. You can almost smell the ruins.

There was a TV series - "Foyle's War". Is that available in book form? Foyle was an ex-serviceman invalided out and joining the police force, solving war-time crimes.
I've just checked, and no, there isn't, but Anthony Horowitz, the author of the Foyle's War series, has written two books of a new series, featuring feature Daniel Hawthorne, a prickly private investigator with a shady past. Horowitz has written himself in as a sidekick.
The word is murder
The sentence is death

The Radio Times has an article describing how he has put into the second book a reference to an error in the TV series - a routemaster bus appearing years too early.

Another one to recommend Kate Atkinson Life after Life.Followed God in Ruins to continue the story.

There are lots of books actually written during the war which give a real sense of the awfulness of it.
Current writer Lissa Evans who wrote first 'Crooked Heart' then its prequel 'Old Baggage' does a huge amount of research before writing so her books are great.
The Mass Observation Diaries compiled during the war are fascinating. Well worth a read.

Joanna Trollope has a book which involves a young woman alone in London in the blitz, I forget the title but remember the story well, especially its ending.
Mr Tom, written for children by Michele Magorian, has a heartbreaking section set in the London blitz.

Ooh, thank you Greyduster I have enjoyed lots of PBs books. She is good at “harrowing” it’s on my list.

Pat Barker’s “Noonday”. It’s part of a trilogy but this particular book is very vivid portrayal of the horrors of the Blitz and those who picked up the pieces.

Without the moon and That old black Magic by Cathi Unsworth are both good as well Ilovecheese
The magic one is about the mystery of Bella in the Wych elm.
No one knows who Bella was, but a fascinating backstory. Very intriguing.

The Night Watch by Sarah Walters. (I have read so many with that setting but can only think of that one right now. Will be back if I can remember any others!)

"Old Baggage" and the follow on book "Crooked Heart" both by Lissa Evans are beautifully written and look at the realities of the Blitz, as Granny says above - have just finished both of them and they were so good that I didn't want to get to the end.
