I, too, thought the ‘ storytelling’ video was one of the most fake things I’ve seen. The baby wasn’t at all engaged with either his mother or the book, and she didn’t look comfortable either. I’m sure they could have taken some film of them playing with another ‘favourite’ toy.
I thought one of the worst things was when he was overheard pitching for a voice-over role for Meghan when they went to the premier of The Lion King. Where was his pride and dignity? The producer he was speaking to looked completely surprised and taken aback when Harry started begging for work for her.
I think Harry is the sort of person who needs structure in his life and the Royal family and his engagements provided that. She has obviously not been happy and I can imagine, behind the scenes, she gave him hell. I read that the Queen was aware of problems in the marriage.
He has looked miserable for some time and I think at this stage will do anything to protect his marriage and to try and keep her happy.
However, I do not think that will last and eventually he will be back.
The book was given to him by Oprah who apparently gives a 'standard gift' to 'people she cares about' and was shared on the Instagram account for Save the Children. There is even a charity appeal attached to it.
So, rather than just a charming clip of Archie having a story read to him it's a stage managed appearance designed to promote the Sussex's endeavours not to mention Oprah's largesse.
It may have been word perfect Annie but the delivery was awful. She was unable to hold the baby’s interest and unwilling to accept that he wanted to look at a different book. It was as unnatural an interaction between a mother and her baby as I have ever seen.
Re Archie's birthday video, it seemed to me that Meghan was auditioning for future voice-overs. None of it was about the baby or what he wanted to do - he tried to pick up another book but she wasn't having it.
It must upset Charles and William. Charles spent time with The Duke of Windsor in his last years , does he think of the sadness of The Duke’s life and fear the same lies ahead for his son.
I agree with you merlot and Calendargirl. I just wish the press would stop reporting on them, then they could have the ‘privacy’ they said they craved. I thought the video of Meghan reading to baby Archie was cringe worthy. The baby wasn’t remotely engaged with her or the book.
I can see Harry being side lined bit by bit as Meghan's profile continues to rise. He has served his purpose. He has no real talent other than his sincerity where his former charities are concerned. He will always be in Meghan's shadow now. You could see that coming in South Africa where she made all the key speeches and he stood in the background.
One day he will realise that he is being feted in the US because of his heritage and not because of how likeable he is, or who he is as a person. Meghan only has these relatively new friends because she hooked up with Harry. He is already becoming the Duke of Windsor.
I will, I’d like to hear what they have to say. I’ll wait till it’s available in the local charity shops though (the wait won’t be long) and make sure I have the salt cellar to hand.
