How many others would be interested in reading Harry & Meghan's biography as I would ?

Shropshirelass Sun 10-May-20 07:31:23

No, absolutely not. This is Meghan again, and is sooooo wrong!. Poor Harry, why doesn't he stand up to her.

True Jabberewok! Who said ‘propert is theft’?

Jabberwok Fri 08-May-20 09:57:22

Investigating the two Duchies?!! Presumably seeking an irregularity in order to confiscate them! After six hundred odd years I think you'd be very hard pushed on that one,as you would on Balmoral and Sandringham, as you would on Chatsworth House and any other privately owned inherited property, land or finance by any other citizen.

At least they had masks on when out walking. It spared us those fake smiles that are permanently on show for those pesky paparazzi they say they want to avoid.

The ones that by coincidence are able to be just there at the right time to capture the meaningful moments they want to have on show.

They wanted privacy. They could have lived in seclusion in Frogmore cottage in their £3 million renovated cottage.

But instead they chose to freeload in a Beverley Hills mansion surrounding themselves by fawning celebs who want to hang on to the remnants of their royal coat tails.

Cleaning 12 bathrooms should keep her busy.

merlotgran Fri 08-May-20 07:56:18

Oprah gave Archie the book and they've got to keep her happy. hmm

Otherwise they might be out in the streets. grin

Calendargirl Fri 08-May-20 07:09:49

Digressing a bit.

Just watched the Meghan reading book to Archie video. Probably been mentioned already, but the way she was pushing it to be that book when Archie kept grabbing another one. She must have been paid to promote it surely, otherwise she would just have let him look at the second book.

Would like to see

royal finances reform charter proposes the following simple reforms, to improve accountability, transparency and fairness in royal finances and to appropriately assign public funds to the Treasury.

Parliament to set an annual fixed budget for the monarchy - including an annual salary for the Queen - to be managed and reported on by a government department, not Buckingham Palace.

All security costs to be made transparent and accountable.
All costs of royal visits around the country to be incorporated into the monarchy's budget, not met by local authorities.

The institution of the monarchy, and all members of the royal household, to be required to abide by the same tax laws and rules as all other public bodies and private individuals.

The Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall to be fully investigated by parliament with a view to transferring them into public ownership, with all revenue going to the Treasury.

The Crown Estate to be renamed 'the National Estate' and its status clarified through amendment of the Crown Estate Act.

I didn’t notice it but just read on the front of the book Meg was reading is - ‘Archie’s Book Club’.

Oprah Winfrey gives X Book Club to all her friends children

They have indeed eazybee but are constantly dragged up, the facts ignored in order to be used as a stick to beat the RF with!! Anyone with a knowledge of history knows this, but others just won't accept it!

eazybee Thu 07-May-20 16:12:39

The Duchy of Lancaster does not belong to the nation, it is the private property of the sovereign and was inherited by John of Gaunt through his first wife, Blanche of Lancaster and passed into the royal family via his son, Henry IV. It is used to provide an independent income for the sovereign.

The Duchy of Cornwall entered the royal family via Edward 111, and its purpose is to provide a limited income for the heir to the throne.
These facts have been posted repeatedly, as has the fact that many of the younger members of the family do not receive an allowance, even though some choose to attend royal events.

Anniebach Thu 07-May-20 15:22:50

Good question GrannyLaine,

Rosalyn69 Thu 07-May-20 15:12:06

I can’t think of a more tedious read - even in lock down.

BelindaB Thu 07-May-20 14:20:08

Not me. Wouldn't buy it, borrow it or waste a second of time on it. Annecan has it spot on.

GrannyLaine Thu 07-May-20 14:19:36

Grany local councils also foot the bill for extra policing at football matches and major sporting events. Should we do away with those too?

Anniebach Thu 07-May-20 10:25:05

Minor royals do not carry out public duties and do not receive
public funding.

Grany Thu 07-May-20 10:21:10

MPs should follow Denmark's example and cut all minor royals off from public funding, as a step in the right direction.

2013 “Sovereign Grant”. This has been set at 25% of surplus revenue from the crown estate - a publicly-owned property portfolio - resulting in a payment of £76.1m for 2017/2018.

However, the Sovereign Grant is just one part of the total cost of the monarchy. The royal family's security bill is picked up by the metropolitan police, for example, while the costs of royal visits are borne by local councils.

Meanwhile, income from the Duchy of Lancaster and the Duchy of Cornwall – despite belonging to the nation - goes directly to the Queen and Prince Charles respectively, depriving the treasury of tens of millions of pounds every year.

Anniebach Thu 07-May-20 10:00:38

not all members of the royal family have paid security, not all
members of the family live in London

The royals are asked to visit, they do not stick a pin in a map
and say ‘think we will go there and there this year’.

Grany Thu 07-May-20 09:44:22

maddyone

You may think the artical is bias but it is true that the met police pays an awful lot for all the members of RF security. And local councils foot the bill in the thousands for Royal visits. Even from 2010 the same is still happening. That's the point. A yougov polled found people want the Royals to pay for the own visits. So that's how the money is alowcated many people may not think that is fair. For a elected Head of State the costs would be far less them we allow they Royals to take.

anniesgrannie Wed 06-May-20 22:31:06

NO.

Anniebach Wed 06-May-20 21:57:00

I suppose it’s her right to published it but not her fathers, poor
man

merlotgran Wed 06-May-20 21:34:31

The book is bound to be highly critical of the tabloids but

'If Meghan always intended the letter to be made public, according to the man supposedly writing “her” side of the story, was it ever really private?'

Anniebach Wed 06-May-20 21:32:46

Yes, oops

merlotgran Wed 06-May-20 21:30:57

Going back to the OP, there's an interesting comment by Camilla Tominey, who writes about the RF for the Telegraph, in which she says that Omid Scobie, one of the co-authors, may have inadvertently compromised Meghan’s case by telling Good Morning America that she intended the contents of the letter to be made public.

Oops!

merlotgran Wed 06-May-20 21:13:34

Poor Archie. Even his books are 'Woke'
