Any nominations for those passages in novels which bring you to tears every time you read them?

Alegrias1

The Subtle Knife when Lee Scoresby is separated from Hester and The Amber Spyglass when they are "reunited".

The end of Sunset Song when Chris sees Ewan walking up the hill to Kinraddie, after she finds out he won't be coming home again.

Trying to avoid spoilers!

Was the tv adaptation different from the book, then? Annoyingly I haven’t got the book with me and really wanted to read it after watching the series.

Sunset Song and the bit towards the end where Chris sees Ewan and forgives him. I cry every time I read it. I used to teach it and cried then too!

"Black Beauty". So very sad.

I am with Nannarose too, could never read that aloud to children without crying! Also, the part in Finn Family Moomintroll where Moomin is changed by the hobgoblins hat and only his mother recognises him - “It’s all right now, my dear, “ said Moominmamma, “You see, I shall always know you whatever happens.”

Another of mine is the end of The Amber Spyglass, when Lyra & Will sit on the bench in the Botanic Gardens.....again avoiding spoilers!

The same as Nannarose
"My daddy, oh my daddy"

The Railway Children.
I have read it many times - and every time it makes me cry.

The last chapter of Black Beauty. And the one at the beginning where his brother dies. And Ginger......(sob)

'My Daddy, oh my Daddy'

Bobbie runs down the platform (Railway Children). I love the way the tension builds to that scene.

My first three are:
Silas Marner. The bit where lonely Silas stretches out his hand to feel his money and finds the sleeping Effie on the hearth.

Persuasion. Capt Wentworth's letter to Anne.

Black Beauty. Almost every page!
