Meghan, but not Meghan

Well it was on the BBC and I love children's books!

I was interested to see what this book was all about so took a quick look. Let's be fair, it is a first attempt.

The illustrations are lovely, very soft almost pastel shades, ideal for gentle bedtime reading. Yawn.

The people are a bit thin and wooden and I was disappointed the dogs weren't in the book.

Now for the rhyming. I'm not sure about the cadence, very contrived. Where are all the commas?
I don't know when to breathe.
The script is tiny, I need two pairs of glasses. Actually, come to think of it the print should be far bigger if it is designed for younger children to read

Would you buy it for your grandchildren? Does it resonate and get any message across? £12.99 reduced to £9.99. Is you want it, please hurry it might just sell out.

I dont think its an 'in' thing Callistemon Fergie did hers a number of years ago didnt she?

Yes, she did and Charles much earlier.
I meant celebrities and books in general, not just the Royals, Namsnanny.

Some may be very good but it does seem to be a popular thing to do.

I will agree with you on that Rosie. She should absolutely not use the royal ‘brand’ to trade or promote herself. This is not a hate fest, simply an opinion based on what I understand that Harry and Meghan were told when they left the royal job. I won’t say left the family as people can’t leave their families, although they can become estranged from them, as many do, evidenced by the very sad estrangement threads on Gransnet.

I get that MM is hardly flavour of the month but what I don’t get is why anyone thinks it’s acceptable to spread rumours about her plagiarising a book they haven’t even bothered to read. Is it not possible to intensely disapprove of her and everything she stands for without resorting to that ?

SW of course it's possible to do so. I've already said that she comes in for unjustified criticism, but there are posters and I will name you as one of them, who will not seem to accept that any criticism of her is justified. In my opinion you claim every and any criticism is a hatefest, which is patently untrue. I haven't read her book so will not comment on it. I will comment that she is using the title Meghan, Duchess of Sussex as author. Why not be the independent woman she is and use Meghan Markle or Meghan Windsor if she prefers to take her husband's name? I'll criticise her for using the royal connection while not being willing to fulfil any royal obligation.

yes I remember now the women knitting by the guillotine.

I do have a bias against MM I will admit. I think she spreads unhappiness and reminds me of the man my DD married. I won't buy the book Boy on a Bench because it would be a waste of my money but I read the details on Amazon and it is not about the same theme as The Bench.

So not really plagarised then.

maddyone Wed 05-May-21 14:27:19

Daisendl Ah, I understand now. I saw a picture of the front cover and it said the author is,

Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex

maddyone
Sorry for any confusion
My message should have read ''Who was the author ?, Meghan Markle? or HRH Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.?

Sw, I thought you hated general references to "most" or "some" posters? Have the guts to name names, like you tell others to.

Fair point. Sparklefizz and Smileless are accusing MM of paganism based on rumour snd not facts.

Two posters doesn't seem to equate to "most" .........

Most:definition
determiner, pronoun, adverb
the biggest number or amount of; more than anything or anyone else:

Maybe a touch of hyperbole in your original comment then?

MM does seem to be fond of "borrowing " ideas for her speeches and other activites.......I can't remember examples sadly, but if it turns out to be true that her book is very similar to anther book already published then that is a really "unkind" way to behave.
I can't get past the fact that she has detroyed her own relationship with her Dad plus her husband's relationship with his Dad. Then she writes about the importance of family bonds.
She needs to read "The Waterbabies" I think it was, with Mrs Do-As-You-Would-be-done-by".

Rather than running with the rumour and speculating on it why not just read The boy on the bench?

i don't understand the reason for mentioning knitting needles.
can you explain?

Les Tricoteuses - the women who sat by the guillotine during the French Revolution knitting in between executions.

Smileless2012 Wed 05-May-21 14:04:32

Just love the hypocrisy on these threadsgrin. The RF willingly viewed by some as racist based on "rumour and not facts" because of that interview and the questionable word of two people, and yet despite numerous comments about the similarities, note the word similarities, I have at no time used the word plagiarism, these are all based on rumour and not facts.

Or could it be that the sales of MM hating spectacles are exceeding all expectationshmm.

Shall we wait and see when the accusations of paganism start getting shared? Its only a matter of time.... ??

^Well I read that she was a pagan!^

As well as everything else she is ???

Oh dear oh dear suziewoozie "a weasley get out of jail word" if only you could put forward your point of view in a more pleasant way.

apparently - as far as one knows or can see.

Nothing "weasley" about it and used correctly in my earlier post.

Could you explain why you felt it was acceptable to repeat a rumour the truth about which you have admitted to knowing nothing? Is it just because you wanted it to be true and as it puts MM in an unfavourable light, you thought it was perfectly acceptable to post it? Or have I got that wrong?

I've seen that too Sparklefizz. Corrine Averiss' book published in 2018 'The Boy and the Bench' about a father and son bonding; oh dear*

I hope Corrine Averiss sues!

Try putting down your knitting needles and reading the Boy on the Bench . It has nothing at all to do with a boy bonding with his father on a bench.

Hahaha! "My knitting needles" eh ?

You are one of the reasons suziewoozie that I have been giving GN a 2-month break! You are never able to resist handing out an insult or nasty comment.

Calendargirl

The book we saw Meghan reading (or trying to read) to Archie some time ago, the Oprah endorsed one I think, looked pretty boring, ‘Duck Rabbit’ the title?

Poor Archie kept squirming away, didn’t seemed captivated by it. Let’s hope Meghan’s is better received by him.

And do it continues - drip after drip after drip

I've just googled and seen Duck Rabbit read on youtube. I doubt the storyline would engage or mean anything to many children under two, and the illustration wasn't especially eye catching. You found it a good children's book then sw?

Where did I post that - still, most posters on this thread work hard on their fiction skills don’t they?

Well your drip drip comment seemed to oppose Calendargirl's criticism of the book?? Please don't worry you head the race for hyperbole, and are well placed in the fiction stakes, especially about you being always right about everything.

Well apparently you are mistaken.

Perhaps you should remove your 'hating anything to do with M' spectacles which may then enable you to focus on the value or otherwise of the book instead of attacking the author with unfounded allegations?

BTW, the text of the book looks awful. I wouldn't buy it for any children I know. I like the pictures though.

suziewoozie Wed 05-May-21 13:39:58

Smileless2012

As I posted earlier apparently there are similarities to the story and the illustrations.

Perhaps you should remove your 'hating anything that isn't 100% in favour of M' spectacles which may then enable you to focus on what is posted and not what you think has been posted.

Why did you post without checking - apparently is just a weasley get out of jail word to try and excuse accusing someone of plagiarism.
