Has anyone read this and what did you think of it?

Yes, didn’t really like it though! Not to say it isn’t good, but I found it weird.
The film was good though

I’ve read it. I liked it but unusually, I thought the TV adaption was better. I’ve also read her ?second book, The Muse, set in the London world of art in the 60’s, and really enjoyed that.

I have read it and enjoyed it very much. The adaptation was good too, very well made.

I loved the book and also enjoyed the TV adaptation.

I read it and found it quite intriguing but it didn't exactly set me alight - it's not in my top ten but was a satisfactory read.

I really enjoyed it. There was a 'Rebecca' atmosphere to it, although it was not a similar story.

Yes I really liked it, and thought the dramatisation was also very good. I also enjoyed her follow up book, "The Muse", totally different subject matter and time period, but well worth a read too.

Glad to read these comments I have it on my E reader but not got round to it yet, I will give it a go.

I have read, but not really enjoyed. I felt there was something slightly off balance about the story.

I felt it was aping 'The Girl with the Pearl Earring.'
Quite enjoyable but not particularly page-turning.

I have read and enjoyed the book. Not seen anything of it on TV.

Read the book and watched the film. Enjoyed both

Really enjoyed the book, I had it on my
‘To read’ pile for a year or more, because my daughter said it was awful!
Really glad I decided to read it, loved it.

I too ( like eazybee) felt it was very reminiscent of Girl with the Pearl Earring . This was of course partly due to the Dutch 18th century setting . It gave us a good picture of the stiff manners in the Netherlands in that era . Now we know the origin of “ a millstone round the neck “ .

I enjoyed both the book and the film. An entriguing sort of story.
