Going away next week need holiday reads.
Not too fat a book .
Not fantasy
Not gory
Not too chick lit but not intellectually demanding
No Richard Osman !!

I enjoyed Diplomatic Baggage. Very interesting & Brigid has a down-to-earth style.. I read it just before the Syrian civil war kicked off; I remember because Syria was her favourite posing and the people were so hospitable.

My choice of "good read" authors:

Tracey Chevalier - especially Girl with a Pearl Earring
Deborah Moggach - especially Stolen
Lee Langley - especially Changes of Address
Nick Horny - especially About a Boy
David Nicholls - especially One Day
Anne Tyler - especially Saint Maybe

I know there are mixed opinions about Hilary Mantel. Historical books don't really appeal to me but I found her book Eight Months on Ghazzah Street a gripping thriller (inspired by her own experience of living in Saudi Arabia)

Not without my daughter- Betty Mamood- a good, easy read.

Thank you for the update, Maw, I'm sorry to hear that.

I fear Lucca is no longer with us
Another, sadly missed.

Does anyone know if Lucca is OK? I know she was very ill.

Hi Lucca
Did you read The Carer?
Indeed any Deborah Moggarch.
I particularly like her Buffy (he’s a lugubrious ageing actor) books, start with The Ex-Wives.

Enjoy your break!

I thoroughly enjoyed The Carer!
Found in a charity shop, IIRC.

Thank you. I've just downloaded the app.

You can also get BorrowBox from our library- which I like better than Libby as it has a wider range of audio books - which I listen to when cooking or sewing etc.

Have you read ‘Me Before You’ Jo Jo Moyes or the follow up’After You’? Or
‘The Moon’s a Balloon’ David Niven always makes me laugh. Or biographies of other famous people
