To be published in January. Oh dear ?

Lathyrus Sun 30-Oct-22 14:22:34

I won’t have you deleted.

What you’ve quoted pretty much confirms that she wanted people to think she had a childhood where money was tight.

She should have checked how the Sizzler worked first😬

volver Sun 30-Oct-22 14:20:14

I got deleted earlier this week for suggesting a poster was twisting around, trying to justify something they got wrong.

Won't do that again.

Lathyrus Sun 30-Oct-22 14:18:51

She did write it in an open letter to Congress about 5 dollars for a meal out was all they could afford.

5 dollars for the salad bar with the entree. You can’t have it without.

That’s just the way it works at the Sizzler.

volver Sun 30-Oct-22 14:18:28

"I grew up on the $4.99 salad bar at Sizzler — it may have cost less back then (to be honest, I can’t remember) — but what I do remember was the feeling: I knew how hard my parents worked to afford this because even at five bucks, eating out was something special, and I felt lucky,"

I've used the Morrisons salad bar

Yes, jolly good value.

The Sizzler doesn’t work like that though.

volver Sun 30-Oct-22 14:13:24

Oh, OK sorry. Obviously if Meghan said it, it must have been a lie. Obviously.

Prentice Sun 30-Oct-22 14:12:46

She will be saying next that her family were in a debtors prison while she laboured in a boot blacking company.grin

It is the constant self pity from H and M that annoys people, that and throwing your family under the bus in the public glare.

volver Sun 30-Oct-22 14:10:39

Even me, arch Republican that I am, knows that Meghan got her private education after her dad won the lottery or something. You can be hard up one year and better off the next, you know. How amazing.

Lathyrus Sun 30-Oct-22 14:09:52

She did actually say she ate at the Sizzler Salad bar.

Now before Covid me and the Sizzler had an intimate if sporadic relationship.

You have to buy the entree to get the Salad Bar. If that was all her parents could afford fair that’s probably true.

But what they could afford would have to be the steak, fish, grill whatever entree.

It’s not a poverty choice, believe me.

And just a totally unnecessary, warped story to go with what she was trying to achieve. If you’re going to do it, get it right🙄

Prentice Sun 30-Oct-22 14:08:35

Since Meghan was given a private education I have real, doubts that she has ever been poor.
Eating a meal from the salad bar is fine and dandy, not particularly cheap but healthy and I expect she was always watching her figure.
It is simply more of the victim status that she aspires to and frankly makes me laugh.

I wonder if, like me Glorianny, you just googled "meghan $5.99 salad bar" and got a page full of articles which showed where this daft story came from?

We could have just got all offended by the way she makes up stories, instead of actually trying to find out what really happened, couldn't we? I wonder if other people get offended by things that didn't happen?

Glorianny Sun 30-Oct-22 14:04:06

Incidentally I believe in a lot of these places if the adult buys a meal the child eats for free.

Well I’m going to tell you.

Some American diners have an eat all you want Salad Bar. Being American it has stuff like Chicken wings and ribs on it😬

Meghan said they were so poor that she had to make her meals at the 5.99 salad bar. The catch is you can only have the salad bar if you buy the entree - steak or whatever.

Obviously she’d never actually eaten in one of those.

she should have sent an aide to check out how they work.

Funny how stories get twisted. Meghan used the salad bar as an example of the sort of treat her parents gave her as a child. She said she couldn't remember the cost but it was what they did.
She was writing a letter to support paid parental leave, but god forbid she should try to get anything good done in the US, or that she shouldn't remember every last detail of her childhood. www.newsweek.com/meghan-markle-grew-499-salad-bar-sizzler-all-her-parents-could-afford-1641156

I'm saying nothing. Well maybe I will.

Folk can be awfully keen to jump to conclusions about people they don't approve of "making things up" without checking things out in advance.

This salad bar actually costs $5.99. You don't think she was talking about this do you? hmm

Oh go on, you do want to know about the salad bar really😬

volver Sun 30-Oct-22 13:41:00

I've no idea what he salad bar thing is (don't feel you have to tell me 🤣) but I did look up the bra station.

It's all getting very silly.

Lathyrus Sun 30-Oct-22 13:38:02

You know the salad bar and the bra station irritated me more than the Royal Family stuff. 😬

It’s that making things up to stir up sympathy or indignation.

And also the stupidity of telling a story that can be proved untrue. If I did that I’d at least make it a good one🙄

Not particularly anti Meghan. I’d get irritated with posters that just churn it out and don’t bother with facts😬

volver Sun 30-Oct-22 12:46:27

I'm having a cup of coffee and trying to decide which is most ridiculous as a criticism of MM.

"Lies about the salad bar" or "the Deal or no Deal bra station."

I can see that no ‘argument’ will prevail to those who consider Harry is the baddy in all this. As is obvious I don’t see it that way at all.

So I’ve had my say and we are all entitled to make up our minds for ourselves - even on issues where our only source of information is the media. And I include myself in that because I’ve never met Harry or Meghan either.

But our only source of information isn’t the media. We’ve had plenty of information direct from Harry and Meghan.

I don’t much like people to use false information in any aspect of life. Things like “we were literally cut off financially”. It’s not only untrue but it must make people distrust you when the facts come out that actually you were given millions.

Or “I had to eat from the Salad bar” when everyone knows that you only get the salad bar if you buy the £20 entree🙄

Does the embroidering of their tale not bother you?

maddyone Sun 30-Oct-22 12:14:10

It’s not dislike of Harry, it’s dislike of his behaviour.

Well his dad was Prince of Wales and that was because his mother was our dear late Queen. Isn’t it wonderful grin

Not particularly.
