To be published in January. Oh dear ?

^If he has written the truth^

A big ‘if’.

His (and hers of course) idea of the truth.

I thought this too. I’m reading Revenge by Tom Bower. Only a few chapters in but some very interesting insights into Meghan’s idea of ‘truth’.

But you're still here 🤔

What?

volver Sat 29-Oct-22 18:42:41

^Yes, there have been some very snippy comments.
Including yours.^

Never mind, no-one will ever know because I've been deleted.

Wonder how that happened?

I am surprised at the choice of title, as it was his mother who coined the phrase, “I’ve done my duty and produced the heir and a spare”

That phrase has been around for centuries

Actually I’ve done a bit of Googling, though you have to scroll past pages and pages of Harry and Meghan till you get to stuff about origins of phrases.

It seems to have been coined in the very late 19th Century by (ohdear now I’ve forgotten her name) anyway a wife of the Churchill family, one of the American Vanderbilts.

Attempting to get out of an unhappy marriage she insisted she had done her duty by producing “an heir and a spare”.

Though obviously the concept has been around since Adam and Eve, who after the death of Abel, felt it necessary to produce a replacement.

There isn’t that interesting 🤔🙂🙄

Yes.

Apparently it was usual amongst the upper classes to remain faithful until "the heir and the spare" were born.

Honest to god, what is wrong with people today?

Is it the prospect of the clocks changing? Halloween maybe?

I think you’ve got to accept that you like what you know of them and there are many others who don’t like what they know of them. That said, none of us actually know them. However, we form Our individual opinions from what we read, what they say, what they do, their TV interviews, their behaviour towards their family members. And we all have to agree to disagree. But we will know more when his book comes out and then we may know a bit more than we do currently. Or not.

Callistemon21 Sat 29-Oct-22 18:39:29

Really nice, volver

If we're going to be honest, yes, I agree with fluttERBY123

Many of us have been on GN for a long time and no, it was never as nasty as it has become lately.

Yes, there have been some very snippy comments.
Including yours.

I've not said anything unkind about Harry, btw, in case you want to peruse the thread thoroughly.

11unicorn You like Harry and Meghan ! You don't set your bar high do you ? I personally can't abide liars and those 2 don't do truth.

11unicorn and volver I'm with you. I suspect GN is getting a bit like MN. There never used to be nastiness here.

There seem to be a few new posters on this thread.

Everybody 🤔

Well, I don't so perhaps someone on here can let me know?
So far, I haven't seen a synopsis on here.

Patsytaylor Sat 29-Oct-22 18:21:50

Well he definitely has mental health problems. He's lost the plot since marrying that toxic woman!

LadyHonoriaDedlock Sat 29-Oct-22 18:12:08

Everybody seems to know what's in this book and has an opinion about it. I'm sure that will boost sales no end. The truth is that I doubt if may people really know what's in it beyond Harry himself, his ghost-writer (I assume) and his publisher. The market is being primed, through the media, to ensure its success.

Like most people I've never met Harry or Meghan. Like most people I've seen Meghan on the TV and she seems a nice enough sort. I've also read a lot about her in the media, and as with most people that pretty much all I know about her, but to be honest the media has been pretty consistent about building a popular narrative about her, which is what the media does. It didn't start with Oprah. It began with trivia like touching her baby bump (didn't you touch yours?). Always the contradictions between the treatment of "English Rose" Kate and slightly outré, Californian Meghan. This www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ellievhall/meghan-markle-kate-middleton-double-standards-royal says all I could say.

I don't believe for a minute that the couple caused deep distress to the late Queen. How would anybody know? She of all people was savvy enough to know that the world was changing and that a no-longer-requires "spare" should be allowed to build his own life in his own way. I think she knows and regrest that one of her mistakes was preventing her own sister from finding her own way (which she did anyway in the end)

Sparklefizz Sat 29-Oct-22 18:00:59

But he hasn't criticised Netflix for re-enacting Diana's death in The Crown, has he, despite it being totally tasteless and despite what he has said in the past? He would have been straight onto his lawyers if any other media stream had been responsible.

Galaxy Sat 29-Oct-22 17:35:46

I cant. It's all too subtle for me grin

Calendargirl Sat 29-Oct-22 17:34:03

He seemed to like it until someone told him he didn’t

And we can all guess who that was.

volver Sat 29-Oct-22 17:33:31

Oh goodness, it's gone nuclear. 🤪

LesLee7 Sat 29-Oct-22 17:30:57

They didn't want to be working Royals - fine, so why do they want to keep their titles (to try and earn off the back of it ).
They moved to US - fine, but despite continually complaining about the British media and taking them to court they wanted the publicity (otherwise who would bother with them).
I'm not what you'd call a Royalist as such but I feel so sorry that the Queens latter years were spoilt by this pair, she must have been upset. It was bad enough losing her husband. Harry kept saying how much he thought of her b....s, I would never have treated my Nan like that. Then she (Meghan) had the cheek to pass comment on the Queen after the funeral and how much she thought of her - didn't stop them talking to Oprah did it.

Like someone said I wish the mefia would forget them, not bother writing anything about them and let them get on with it - would be interesting to see how they made a living then. I think the book will come back to bite him. When you saw the outpouring of affection around the world for the Queen after she died I think it's very poor that he is (probably) going to have another go at his family just to make money.

Now I really will be hiding this thread.

Oh, please don't, FannyCornforth!

Way to go to welcome people to the discission
Way to go to enter the discussion.

Perhaps not the best first post to join in a thread?
Telling us what we should or should not be posting?

keep it calm
nasty
outrage
let's just leave it

Apart from that, the middle part is fine.

Welcome to the thread 11unicorn
I'm sorry, I must have missed your previous posts.
Thank you, volver, for the heads up.

FannyCornforth Sat 29-Oct-22 17:25:53

It was a joke, volver, as you well know.
But well done with your research skills, which have been woefully neglected I’m sure.
Please can we go back to totally ignoring each other. It’s for the best.
Now I really will be hiding this thread.

WOW Gransnetters,
keep it calm ladies.
No need to be so nasty to people who don't agree with you.

I am looking forward to reading it.
I like Harry, I like Meghan, I like Kate, I like William - but all have some bad sides to them as they are just human like we all are. Everyone is entitled to see things from their point of view, which is just what Harry does.
So please, let's just leave it as "some will enjoy reading it and some will not want to read it" no need for all the outrage here.

You are new here, I’m guessing?
This is our bread and butter grin

😂😂😂
And jam!

This is quite a “calm” thread as things go in my experience.
If not it would have been pulled by now BUT
there’s still time 😱
