To be published in January. Oh dear ?

I wonder at his response to the plan by Russian artist Andrei Molodkin to project a sculpture of Afghan blood with Harry’s face onto St Paul’s cathedral? A reaction to the description of him killing taliban fighters.

Not a Royalist so no time for any of them. However, Harry boy is such a loose cannon you can't help be amazed at what he comes out with and as a family have a bit of sympathy for the way he has treated them. I wouldn't buy the book to add to his coffers and all the interesting bits are out in internet land for us all to see.

I finished the audiobook yesterday. I will wait a while then listen again. There’s a lot to take in.

So agree with you serendipity the vitriol says more about the sender than the recipient
I haven’t read the book but from all the little bits I ve pieced together think they ve had a tough time especially him
Hope it’s helped him to get it all out

Serendipity22 Tue 24-Jan-23 15:57:45

Well, I've read it and have nothing but sympathy for Harry. The poor lad is carrying a huge weight on his shoulders and absolutely loathes the press and I've always said it, not 1 of us can judge considering we are not royalty and haven't the foggiest idea of what life must be like ( unless 1 or 2 or 3 of us are indeed royalty! )

maddyone Sat 05-Nov-22 11:10:55

I think everything might depend on what is in Harry’s book. It’s a watch this space situation.
I agree with Grany. There will not be big changes to royal life.

Grany Sat 05-Nov-22 11:02:57

Charles is not going to make any changes to modernise slim down, still about 11 family members "working" grin Royals.

He has had everything done for him all his life why change now. Loads of servants butler ect confused

Have just ordered ‘Spare’ from the library

I’m 15th on the waiting list.

nadateturbe Fri 04-Nov-22 09:54:01

Thanks, will look today, Monica.

Elegran Fri 04-Nov-22 08:56:19

Her factor was the man who carried out the evictions, brutally.

M0nica Fri 04-Nov-22 08:39:15

The reason I said the clearances because the 19th century Countess of Sutherland was famous and nootirious forthe way the clearances were carried out. Try googling countess of Sutherland and clearances.

nadateturbe Thu 03-Nov-22 22:46:59

I've only had a brief look Monica. It's very late. The Countess was born in 1921. Clearances were long before that?
Why did you suggest I investigate?

Hoodwinked’ over Royal finances

The royal family’s income from the taxpayer has soared since the financial crisis, a Tortoise Investigation found last year. Now the UK’s former top civil servant says there’s been a deliberate attempt to keep the public in the dark

taxpayer-funded grant that brings the Queen almost £90 million a year is based on a “lie” designed to “hoodwink the public”, a former head of the civil service has said.

Sir Andrew Turnbull, the country’s most senior civil servant for three years under Prime Minister Tony Blair, told Tortoise that laws introduced by George Osborne to reform royal finances were a “classic smoke and mirrors arrangement….cooked up” by ministers and Buckingham Palace. “The thought was that (this arrangement) would hoodwink the public into thinking that the crown didn’t cost the nation anything because the crown was paying for itself. That was wrong.”

His comments will raise new questions about the close relationship between the government and the royal family. This week a Guardian investigation revealed that the Queen successfully lobbied the government to change a draft law to conceal her “embarrassing” private wealth from the public.

The Guardian’s work came six months after Tortoise published its own investigation into Royal Money. We found that the Queen’s public income had more than doubled since the financial crisis of 2008 – hitting £100 million in 2018-19 for the first time – and is set to rise by hundreds of millions of pounds thanks to windfalls from offshore wind farms. You can read the investigation here and listen to our slow newscast on royal money here.

I would investigate the Countess of Sutherland's estate. She was one of the drivers of the late 19th century Highland clearances.

nadateturbe Thu 03-Nov-22 19:36:17

I doubt many could have given a large chunk of the country to their son.

Strange attempt to justify dishonesty.

M0nica Thu 03-Nov-22 18:53:29

nadaturbe has there ever been any really rich person, since time becagn who got every penny they possessed by honest means?

The money came the way other rich people got their money and at the time it was gained it was done by means that were accepted or taken for granted by most people. I judge past times by their standards, not those of today.

Remember 100 years from now society then could turn and judge us by the standards they have then and we could all be mired in dirt for they way we now behave - and I am not talking about global warning I am talking about everytday things that we see as admirable - giving to charity for example.

Grany Thu 03-Nov-22 08:25:43

MOnica Its called the Sovereign Grant that's paid.

The income of the Duchy is there as part of a state funding arrangement, not as a personal income derived from personal property.

Over £22 millions each Charles and William is an awful lot of money given them.

nadateturbe Thu 03-Nov-22 07:46:51

their private fortune
which their ancestors earned Monica?

M0nica Thu 03-Nov-22 07:07:07

Grany. The Civil List is the money paid to the Royal family to cover their royal duties, the rest is their private fortune. Yes, I agree they should pay tax as the rest of us do.

^Harry is a grown man, now in his 40’s^

Must defend him on this, he was born in 1984, so is only 38.

Still a grown man though, even if he doesn’t always act like one.

Apologies it's Meghan who is in her 40's isn't it?

Grany Wed 02-Nov-22 16:30:50

William Gets £22 million from Duchy of Cornwall more money than all the Heads of State in Europe combined and Charles £22 million, (£100 million Sovereign Grant) Ministers have said that tax should be paid on Duchy, yet no capital gains tax, or corporation tax is paid, even though it's run like a business.

Monarchy finance should be looked into and as a public body getting public funds they should reseive a set amount based on a calculation of what they need to do the job as other public bodies do, not just throw money at them.

The Monarchy still profit from proceeds of colonialism passed down from monarch to monarch to this day.

So wrong, no one can possibly disagree. But some will find a way...

KeepitLight68

Here in the States some of us really like him and Megan. I would be curious to read what he has to say.

Some of us in the UK do too KeepitLight68 but it’s not encouraged on Gransnet grin
