This was recently published but having loved The Gift of Rain and Garden of the Evening Mist I couldn’t wait for the paper back. I am half way through but taking my time. It is lovely to be taken on a fictional/historical journey by a real writer. By that I mean a special one who transports you to a different level of reading. Anyone reading or read this or has felt this way about other writers.

Meant to put a question mark.

It was serialised on the radio last week. I was captivated. Not sure if it has not imposed today's attitudes on the world of a century ago, though.

Didn’t realise it was on the radio. Didn’t realise that the murder story was indeed told to Somerset Maugham and he then used it as a basis for one of his books.
