I loved the Shardlake books and if you like them, you may also like S.W. Perry’s “Mark” series (Angel’s Mark, Serpent’s Mark etc there are nine in the series so far). Set in Elizabethan England, they are pacy, with engaging characters and plot twists. I’m sure C J Sansom would have enjoyed them.

Franbern Agree with you. I've read all the Aurelio Zen books, set in different parts of Italy. Sadly the author, Michael Dibdin died when he was 60, back in 2007.

Sansom was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer back in 2012 and died recently.

I miss both these authors as I've read all their books.

Have any of his books been televised ?

There is one on a streaming channel but it's not Netflix or Prime - the only two that I have.

Sadly, Chris Sansom died last week. High final book (Ratcliffe) not finished.
The first book in the Shardake series has been sort of adapated as a serial for Disney TV.

So many fans of this brilliant series, wonder fi someone will eventually be persuaded by the publishers to take on the task of completing Ratcliffe.

I loe reading books that a series, historical detective fiction is the genre I prefer. Get really caught up in the lives and deeds of characters that are slowly unfolded over many books. Sadly, too often they come to an abrupt end leaving those characters and me in limbo as the writers die.

Looked on Amazon, no mention of Ratcliffe, or how to pre-order. It's strange how little info there is out there about CJ Sansom's current condition.

CJ Sansom was diagnosed with cancer as he began writing Tombland. The book took him twice as long to write as usual.
This was 2018 and since then nothing in the way of news. I will not speculate but just send the author very best wishes.

I have read all C J Sansom books. It would be a shame if Tombland was his last. A brilliant writer.

I have all the Shardlake novels - they sit alongside all the Mantel novels of the same period.

Thank you TinSoldier .
I'm looking forward to it .
And thank you to everyone , who is recommending CJSansom .
One blissful thing : I have a huge choice of books for 50p in the local charity shops and rarely buy new .

I understood that C J Sansom was seriously if not terminally ill, so sad, his books are brilliant.

granfromafar Tue 12-Mar-24 16:28:45

According to google.books, it was published last August by Random House Canada. Maybe not available in UK yet? Would definitely want to read it, as I love all the Shardlake books.

I know I hark on a bit about this site but it really is good.

Shows nothing after Tombland and that was published in 2018

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 12-Mar-24 16:22:34

His website shows nothing after Tombland.

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 12-Mar-24 16:05:35

That’s a shame, we’ve enjoyed the Shardlake series.

Marmin Tue 12-Mar-24 14:57:08

I have been looking forward too to the next instalment. It now appears that this title is a hoax: there is no new Shardlake novel. I gleaned this from the facebook page of the appreciation society for this series. Listings on foreign sites are simply victims of the same hoax.

Oreo Tue 12-Mar-24 14:44:41

Have you tried the Amazon UK site?

65sucks Tue 12-Mar-24 14:43:06

Where can I get C J Sanson’s new book ‘Ratcliff’ it doesn’t seem to be available anywhere in the UK.
