Sadly his death has just been announced. I loved his Shardlake novels.

I am re-reading all the Shadlake novels as a tribute to C. J Sansom. I loved reading the books some years ago and am finding that I am getting even more out of them this time round. I was longing to see if Shadlake would live to see Elizabeth 1 come to the throne. Alas, that wont happen now.
Incidentally, I have found that some of Andrew Taylors books are very good especially the Firecourt series.

I was very disappointed to find that Shardlake was going to be on a channel that I can`t access. I`ve read all C.J.Sansom`s books apart from Winter in Madrid. I was waiting avidly for the next one.

Ditto. Very sad. Also loved Winter in Madrid. He was my favourite author

Very sad news. I have all his Shardlake novels as audiobooks. I keep meaning to try some of his others.

Has anyone seen Shardlake on Disney yet and what did you think? I love the books so much I'm thinking of subscribing to Disney.

I started watching this afternoon. I never expect film or TV adaptations to be as good as the books but I’m enjoying it so far.

Absolutely the best historical books ever written, se easy to read, so easy to want to be Matthew’s friend. A wonderful series and both his more modern novels equally brilliant. So sorry that he was so unwell of late. Let’s see what Disney can do with Dissolution

A sad loss. I loved the Shardlake novels, maybe I'll start re-reading them.

We enjoyed it, high production values. (Haven't read the books).

I watched it last night. Not as good as the books but entertaining. They have all 4 episodes up, so quite possible to watch on a month's sub of £4,99 or £7.99.

There was a recognition of the author on the first episode on Disney

So sad. Loved all the Shardlake books , and really loved Winter in Madrid.

Rusume Thu 02-May-24 12:31:44

I loved the Matthew Shardlake books. They encompassed two of my favourite things in literature - whodunnits and the Tudor period! I’m so looking forward to seeing this programme on Disney+. RIP CJ.

I read this post and looked for the books , turned out I had them on my kindle since 2013 !
No work will be done , I’m engrossed already , why on earth did I not read them before !!

My husband had the same cancer as CJ (multiple myeloma) in fact that was how I discovered his books. I was searching for something to read while my husband was in hospital and found a copy of Dissolution in Tesco. I hadn't read any historical fiction for years, but thought it looked interesting. It's a shame he wasn't able to finish the last book but I can see how the effort of researching and writing will have become too much. Such a loss though.

Esmay Mon 29-Apr-24 17:14:07

I've only just discovered him and I'm very sorry to hear about his illness and death .
RIP .

What a tragic loss for his readers, one of the very best writers. Simply wonderful books. RIP Christopher.

Boz Mon 29-Apr-24 16:44:51

Apologies. Shardlake is Disney.

Boz Mon 29-Apr-24 16:40:21

Very well written and engrossing novels. I am looking forward to the Shardlake series on Prime this week. The actor playing him is unknown to me but they have Sean Bean as Thomas Cromwell which could be good.

Romola Mon 29-Apr-24 16:21:25

Matthew Shardlake, one of my favourite characters in literature.
Thank you, C J Sansom for the many hours of pleasure reading your books, and for the historical insights, so cleverly woven into your stories.

Aldom Mon 29-Apr-24 15:19:05

I'm very sorry to hear the sad news.
I have read all but the last of CJ Sansom's books. A loss to the literary world and of course, to his family and friends. A great story teller.
RIP CJ Sansom and thank you for your writing.
