As a life-long wrestling fan, both here in the UK and also WWE, I recently got onto Waterstones website and ordered ''The Wrestling'' by Simon Garfield, £10.99.

A lot of the old time favorites in there like Mick McManus, the Crabtree brothers, Catweazle, Kent Walton etc. and also Mitzi Mueller and Klondike Kate.

Some of the stories are hilarious and Les Kellett was a monster both in the ring and out!

As you say: Each to their own.

I'll give it a miss.

Don't fret, GSM.
You can pick up a copy on eBay for half the price.

I used to watch it with my dad on a Saturday afternoon, Billy two Rivers and Ricky star and I think Jackie Pallo (had a ponytail if I remember rightly)
My parents had a guest house when I was a child and Mick McManus’s parents stayed there for a week 🤓

My ex MIL used to watch it avidly on a Saturday afternoon in the 1960s. It was her only bit of leisure (now known rather more egocentrically as "me time") and she looked forward to it immensely. I used to do her ironing every weekend, so I often watched it with her. As I recall, it was just a bit of amusing nonsense, nothing like the hyped-up sequinned uproar they televise now. Kent Walton commentated in an excruciating transatlantic accent. The boundary line between Good Guys and Bad Guys was always reinforced, and the baddies always lost. It probably wouldn't be popular now, with modern audiences baying for blood as though they're at the Roman games.

Why not order it from an independent bookshop?
