In the final book of the original series he decided to move from Shetland because his partner (Willow) had been offered a new job as head of island policing (or something), based in Orkney, and she was pregnant and he made the decision to move with her.

Yes, yes annodomini, I really hope they bring back Perez.
The series just dosen' cut the mustard with those two irritating, drippy women! I simply can't watch Shetland anymore.
Such a shame as it used to be a fabulous watch, a real treat.
Bring back Perez please!!!! 🤔

Our library posted the news. U welcomed it but said I would only watch a T.V. version if Douglas Henshall played Jimmy...and he liked my post!! Page looked genuine

I still like it and think t wo female leads are excellent not that I did not like the original cast. They need new ground as Shetland has had more homicides than Manchester!

I wish that the BBC had made all of the original books into TV episodes. The TV show only covered 4 of the original 7 books which is a shame as some of the books would have been more interesting than some of the BBCs "original stories based on the characters of Ann Cleeves".
