I was an avid reader from a very early age. I was lucky enough to have lots of books at home and to be a member of our mobile library. Does anyone else remember the Hamish Hamilton Gazelles and Antelopes books? There were a lot of them in the library. I was also born at the peak time for Ladybird books. In common with others, I loved Enid Blyton, Heidi, Peter Pan, the Katy books, the Jill pony books, Just William, Jennings and the Chalet School books. As I grew older, my favourite author was Noel Streatfield. I loved Ballet Shoes but my favourite of her books were The Growing Summer, The Circus is Coming and the Gemma series. Two other books that I read over and over again were Rhyme and Rhythm, a poetry book given to me by my top infants’ teacher and She Shall Have Music by Kitty Barne.
