My brother in law found a loupe in the forest when he was out shooting once. He thought he had found an antique lorgnette from centuries ago. He was most upset to find that it belonged to a lady who had reported it missing from when she had been out hunting the previous week.

I think so too Galen

Loupe in French is also a wolf I think

Oh my days - I am on the computer at our desk DDH has just passed me the torch and ask if I can peer under the desk to see if his lupe/loupe is there, all I could see was a couple of marbles (honestly- say no more) looked further and found a pile of cat poo!!!! Now the debate is whether it is his cat's poo or mine. He swears that when he asked Oscar Oscar shook his head. It is his desk he can b.....y well move it and scoop it. (it looks pretty old)

Googled too. Loupe in French and Lupe in German. Jessops call them Lupes but others call them loupe, I need to get out more and he still hasn't found it.

Don't worry. I've looked it up. Something every day, learned.

I have several. They are called jewellers' loupes and come in different magnifications (mine are 10x, 14x, and 20x). Easier to carry in your pocket than a microscope.

What's an etui?

Anne58 Fri 17-Jan-14 19:02:31

PS It comes up in crosswords from time to time, as does "etui"

( I really do need to get out more, don't I?)

Pretty sure is loupe , although far be it from me to tell your DH that he is wrong! grin

Flowerofthewest Fri 17-Jan-14 18:49:07

Love it stansgran I will say the same, only it will be the Hebrides grin

OK OK I am wrong, phoenix is right. His little thing he unfolds and looks at suspect creature in, in fact, a hand lens. His thing he puts in his eye socket is his lupe. And he still hasn't found the bloomin' thing.

Flowerofthewest Fri 17-Jan-14 17:57:44

Well his folds and unfolds and he holds it in his hand and peers through it at anything from a splinter to a flea.

I always tell my DH whenever he can't find something that he had it when he went to Scotland, I know it drives him insane but he's a grown lad and I'm not his mummy.

You may Adriadne

Ariadne Fri 17-Jan-14 17:49:27

A wolf in sheep's clothing, perhaps? It's OK, I'm going out in a minute!

Flowerofthewest Fri 17-Jan-14 17:48:52

Oh phoenix a loupe, well now I know smile although he spells it lupe. Oh well. He is still looking for it. He is now turning the spare room upsidedown

Anne58 Fri 17-Jan-14 17:47:54

The sort that you sort of scrunch into your eye socket.

Anne58 Fri 17-Jan-14 17:47:10

Ahhh, a loupe.

Flowerofthewest Fri 17-Jan-14 17:42:02

have identified it : it is his little magnifying glass, such as jewellers use. He uses it to identify bugs etc.

Ariadne Fri 17-Jan-14 17:34:48

Is he out of it?
A contraceptive?
Does he want to loop it? (The loop)

Or is it part of his hearing aid? On the other hand, it could be esoteric man speak for something perfectly normal...

Flowerofthewest Fri 17-Jan-14 17:26:29

DDH has just informed me that he is looking for his loop???? any ideas?
