Loan a wheel chair how much to donate.

I've investigated borrowing a wheelchair in case I need one on our trip to Disneyland Paris next month.
They hire them out at 20 euros a day so hoping I won't need one !

When DS1 came home from Japan in need of a wheelchair we borrowed one for a month and we were so grateful that it gave us space to find our feet and a bit of equilibrium. I think we donated £250!! Even then we bought badly and wasted money.

What you donate should relate to how long you use it, how much you needed it and how much you can afford.

DS couldn't walk at all and we needed a wheelchair the minute he came through arrivals. We were so grateful that we could keep it for long enough to think and evaluate what we needed to buy for him. Unfortunately, we chose badly after all that deliberation.

Thanks now I get it , OH may manage ok without it but I don't want to take the chance. We'll need it for a week by hopefully won't need it.

We borrowed one for about 3 months after DH was injured and gave a donation of £60 with which the Red Cross were very happy. The lady in charge haggled it down to that and we said not a penny less. She said the chair was quite old, not the greatest for comfort and had been paid for several times over, so there you go - just pay them what you feel you can afford and perhaps what it is worth to you should come into it too.

Some mobility stores hire them out and charge in this area about £35 a week so I would think your original thought was on the mark.

I think your donation sounds absolutely fine and I'm sure the Red Cross will be delighted.

I'd buy one. That way you know it's brand new and will have no problems. That's what we did when I broke my leg and the Red Cross would only loan one out for one month.

Oh a week! I thought it was for longer, I don't know why.

You can buy one for around £100 so I'd base my donation on that. I think £30 is a good figure.

When my mum died we donated her 2 wheelchairs to a charity. One was almost brand new and the other quite well used but it was a battery assisted powered chair .

I would hope that they would have been loaned or even donated freely to someone in need . I think a £20 donation is more than fair.

I know I'm a bit late with this but maybe someone else may be looking. We were given a very good wheelchair for my DH through NHS Scotland but I found it very heavy to push and to lift in and out of the car. I found this one on the internet and it is brilliant and it was delivered to the door for £79. We use our own cushion on it as DH is more and more dependant on it now.

Have you tried asking locally on Freecycle? I saw one advertised a few days ago.
