Make sure you keep notes during the call, it’s a distressing time and may help later.

I would advise anyone dealing with social services to obtain a copy of their records, and to check them for accuracy.
The same goes for medical records

Thank you. I never thought to ask her what she would be asking, the next time I speak to her will be Tuesday whilst I’m at mums. It’s good to know that the financial side will come later, so I have time to investigate myself.

I know I posted this before when I was very upset and fearful.
The SW, two actually, dealing with me told me I would have to pay the whole of my H’s fees, his SP and his private pension would all be taken when his savings fell below a certain level.
This would have placed me in an impossible situation.
This was not true.
They can only take half of a private pension.
As it is your mother your situation Is different, I am only pointing out to you to check your own facts.

The finance bit is dealt with afterwards when it has been decided how many hours care she can have. When at a later date you receive the forms for the financial part there is a bit on it where you will be asked to cover any payments not made or top ups needed. I refused to sign this part but still received the care. Just a tip.

When I was in this situation with my H I was sent forms afterwards from the Finance dept of the Local Authority to fill in and return.
It was interesting that the SW was totally wrong in her knowledge of the financial implications, I actually knew my facts as I had had a long conversation with Age UK who sent me their relevant fact sheets.
Check everything out for yourself.

I'd suggest asking what questions they're likely to ask and what information they're going to need from you, so you can think it all through beforehand and get any documents ready.
They might be able to email you a checklist.
