Carer Allowance - filling the form

Hi everyone,

I am new in this forum, and I am writing to ask the following.

I have given up my job because I am caring for my mother, who is disabled and she lives in Spain.

I have moved to Spain to be with her.

I am going to apply for "Carers Allowance" and I have trouble with this question which is on the "Carers Allowance application form online":

- "Have you or any of your close family worked abroad or been paid benefits from outside the United Kingdom since your claim date ?"

My claim date on the application form is going to be: 31 December 2023.

Please, could you tell me what exactly the above question on the form means? If I send my application today (which is before the claim date)... do I reply "yes" or "no"?

My mother receives her "Spanish State pension" on the 30th of each month... and I am a bit confused as to what to respond.

Many thanks for your attention.

Has to be yes.

As your claim date will be 31 December 2023 and your mother wil presumably still be getting her "Spanish State Pension" after that, it seems to me as though you have to put "Yes", but maybe you should seek advice from someone who has experience of these forms. How you phrase the answers can be very important.

I think you have to live in the UK to get Carers Allowance….

You can only claim Carers Allowance if your mother receives disability benefits such as Attendance Allowance or DLA.

You have to live in the Uk to receive Carers’Allowance. Look on Gov.UK for Carers’ Allowance eligibility.

Indeed it should.

There are various Facebook groups for ex pats living in Spain that have a wealth of information.

Thanks to all who have replied to my query.

I checked online on gov.uk and it says this:

"... you normally live in England, Scotland or Wales, or you live abroad as a member of the armed forces (you might still be eligible if you’re moving to or already living in an EEA country or Switzerland),"

I am going to give it a try.... who knows?

Thanks a million.
