Hi,
]my mum is 97, has dementia, cancer. Has had carers for the last 18 months after much resistance from her, her health is declining as you would expect.

She has 4 carers a day and has a positive relationship with them, however the council contacted us recently and informed us that the current agency was changing due to losing the contract. The current agency have also contacted me saying there is an option to stay with them .

Has anyone come across this scenario before? Thank you

I had three different care agencies to help with my father .
The first one was good , but he sacked them .
The second and third were appalling and he was afraid of them .
I didn't trust them further than I could throw them .
I'm presuming that it's a question of money and that more money is being asked for than the Council will accept .

If your mother is happy with the current agency - can you stay with a familiar choice ?

You are doing your best for her and it's upsetting for her to have a changeover .

Wishing you luck with this .

i guess the contract with the council is ending.
could you request direct payments; i'm not sure what it's called, but where the council recognise that she needs a certain number of hours and they pay for those hours and you can choose who carries it out.
that is assuming that a financial and care needs assessment has been done.
does she have any assets, or could the family pay for a while, as there is usually a gap between requesting anything from the council and getting a response.
could you contact your local carers' centre, sometime called princess royal centres, for advice.
also age uk.
all the best.
