It has been my experience that most grans are in their 40's or 50's these days.....hardly old, so what's with the logo?

Angelwispa Fri 06-May-11 22:40:08

GeraldineGransnet, I was a little bemused when you said that the logo was PINK!! More of a deep plum or a shade of purple, but PINK, I don't think so, unless I need my eyes testing for colour blindness smile

I think more colourful, really just means more upbeat or modern, as it does look rather dull at the moment. I'm afraid it just looks rather dull at the moment, sorry about that, as I know someone must have put a lot of thought into it. x

Hi I loved that comment I feel the same but my feet don't agree :-)

I am 55...of my 4 grandchildren the oldest will be 16 this year and my youngest is 2 months old. The Logo is more appropriate to my mother who was a young woman in WW2 and would have loved to be in the Land Army.

First post! Just a few weeks off my first half century with a 2-year old grandaughter who is absolutely the most important person in my life! Not at all what I expected when the (totally unanticipated) pregnancy was announced.

As for the logo - I wonder what would be more appropriate? What might be a representative and powerful icon of 21st Century grandparenting?

After supporting my daughter through recurrent miscarriages & thinking I'd never have a grandchild, I finally exoerienced the joy of becoming a grandmother at 61. At 64 I now have two with another expected in October. I love every minute of exploring the world with them. They teach me so much and I do things with them I never did with my own children. I was offended by some of the media reports about Gransnet as their perceptions of Grans didn't feel like me. But I was even more repulsed by the the Shreddies 'knitted by Nana images' of grandmothers (see Gingerbread's post).

I hadn't taken much notice of the Logo but looking at it now it reminds me of the propaganda posters of 1930s fascist and communist governments.

Luckily the idea of Gransnet is great and more important than a Logo.

Yes, I hated the Shreddies "knitted by nana" thing. And the Sainsbury's "take an old bag shopping" campaign.

Like many people who have posted here I don't feel my age. I was 55 when my GD was born almost 6 years ago and if anything I feel younger now! Age is just a number, it's your state of mind that matters. Admittedly sometimes I do wonder about the state of mind though, especially after an afternoon of races down the hall from imaginary starting blocks!

Lancashirelass Sat 07-May-11 15:14:53

How do you feel about the forms where they ask you to tick the relevant age-box ? 45-54, 55-64, over 65, or however someone wants to stereotype you.

Does the suggested mental image suddenly change between one year and the next, from long-in-the-tooth to over-the hill, so disregard this one?

I always promised myself I would not lie about my age, but I really feel like having a 21st birthday every year to keep everyone wondering.

IroningMaiden Sat 07-May-11 15:39:40

I will be 51 in July, I have 12 Gc inc twins, youngest 8 weeks the oldest is 14, my youngest Dd is 15, so only 6 months between her and her nephew smile.

I am 63 in September, and was a bulge baby - just missed the war ! I have to say that the logo reminds me a bit of the Soviet posters that were around during Stalin's time !!
Perhaps supernana could design us a sizzling logo !!

Hi, I am 54. 2 darling GSs 6 & 4. Still working but not long ago reduced my working hours to help with the childcare & spend more time with them. D, SIL & me share the childcare.Thought if I waited until I could afford to fully retire in my mid 60s I would have missed out on these special years while they are little. (I am a happy singleton). I too feel very lucky.smile

helshea Sun 08-May-11 20:29:22

Must agree with the logo comments, it doesnt float my boat! Sorry

Supernan Sun 08-May-11 20:41:57

I think a more mature designer should have been commissioned. Ageism perhaps? wink

Grumpyoldwoman Sun 08-May-11 21:09:09

I am 63 and my first DGD was born 8 yrs ago.
Some of you are really young ..no wonder you hate the 'Shreddies''ad.
I had my 1st baby at 24 but my 2 daughters were 31 when they had their first.
Know what you mean by the flag !!!

lifestillrelevant Mon 09-May-11 10:34:16

I hadn't noticed the logo until you mentioned it but I can see what you mean! Very old fashioned.
I would have preferred a hippy 1960's logo. Flowerpower and all that. Or else something very modern.

Grandmacool Mon 09-May-11 11:25:31

@nannylittle,
you did make me laugh.

My daughter is 38 with an almost 9yo daughter and my son of 34 has a 4yo. I 56 (but not for much longer).

Grandmacool Mon 09-May-11 11:26:27

I also agree on the logo.... very boring indeed.

glammanana Mon 09-May-11 12:59:30

The logo is very out of date agree with something maybe from sixties
or seventies as nannas are more up to date with everything.
Im 60 and have five DGSs aged 21-7yrs and two DGDs aged 9+13 so
am kept up to date with everything from fashion to music etc,i go to
Lpool and meet eldest DGS and his uni friends on regular basis and
always have something in common with them and have a good laugh
at their antics,so come on and give a more up to date logo" gransnet"
we have not lost the plot yet !

lionlilac Mon 09-May-11 18:28:14

I'm 59 with 13 grandchildren and must admit the logo does look a bit maiden auntish from the 30s/40s. Jimmy Hendrix playing his guitar probably would be more appropriate. There is an awful lot of us cool grans on this site wink

heleena Mon 09-May-11 19:32:09

I don't know if this counts but is a sign of the times. I am 65 and a great great great aunt!!!

grannymags Mon 09-May-11 20:44:05

royston Mon 09-May-11 20:51:35

80 next year. One great grandson. Seven grandchildren. Four children.

zulu Tue 10-May-11 00:11:12

So should we have a modern logo with a couple of young grandmothers drinking alco-pops from a bottle's, whilst being arrested by the bill. I think the logo depicts a time when we didn't have or need the internet to have friends. From a time as the song goes when you’ve got friends and nieghbours the world is a happier place, friends a nieghbours puts a smile on the gloomiest face. After all it is only a picture.:-). Mind I am a 69 coming 30 year old Grandad so perhaps I shouln't even be in this forum. wink LMHO
