Things I am now too old to do (a list)

1. I can no longer touch my toes (but frankly they are awful and I wouldn't want to).
2. I can no longer pretend to like people (I've become quite blunt lately and as a consequence, less popular).
3. Wear high heels (such pretty shoes in my wardrobe but just not worth the day after).

What are you now to old to do.

Sorry that last comment was for the explanation of 'mooncup'

quidlibet Tue 10-May-11 17:10:32

GrannyTunnocks Tue 10-May-11 13:13:34

Yes Angel I also have trouble finding my glasses which are places all round the house. However here are some things I can do

Zumba
Aqua Aerobics
Swimming
Aerobics
Walking
Having fun with my grandchildren
Line dancing
Scottish Country Dancing

I am also trying my best to keep up with computers, mobile phones etc.

Keep enjoying life all you grannies.

I can still touch my toes.
I can carry my grand daughter on my back in a pack while I use a wheelbarrow.
I can do the crossword.
I can find my glasses (but I've started losing my mobile phone).
I can lie on the floor and play with my grand-daughter and giggle.
But I can't kneel down, ride my horse, or get up off the floor, and that's the worst!

I reach the big 60 next year & recently have been reflecting on the things I once used to do with ease. I came to the conclusion that luckily I can still do most things but now take a bit more time. I must admit that, like some of you, I do not now suffer fools gladly - but is that an age thing? I also now have the confidence to send food back at a restaurant, & leave if we have not been attended to within say 10 minutes. Mooncup - thank god it was too late for me. Yes heels (but then I hardly ever did), ditto reality shows. I am trying not to turn into that grumpy old woman but maybe I am one already! Oh yes, & if I wear blusher nowadays it just looks as if I am red in the face!

I am assuming that all these comments about what I can't do now are from women. I don't believe I have ever read so many negative comments. Ladies, enjoy life and start thinking what I can do now!

Angelwispa Tue 10-May-11 10:40:53

Grossi * and *GrannyTunnocks, I soooo, understand what you mean about the glasses, and is it me, or do others have trouble finding their glasses, even though I have several pairs, 'strategically' placed around the house, supposedly easy to find, oh and yes they are usually perched on the top of my head smile

Angelwispa Tue 10-May-11 10:38:09

I've just realised what pmsl means (chuckle) smile I've done that a lot whilst reading your witty comments smile

Mamanana Tue 10-May-11 10:26:53

@GrandmaAnge - all power to you there. I had a good chuckle at your alternatives. Suits me

IssysNanny Mon 09-May-11 22:00:18

I'm way too old to read all your wonderfully funny posts without peeing my pants!

bluegran Mon 09-May-11 20:00:44

Thanks for the info - I can't even imagine it, don't want to. I thought it might be a contraception device.

bikergran Mon 09-May-11 17:42:42

I have qiute a few younger friends who are delightful but I find I don't share all the things about being older with them.....when I have they look at me quite pityingly!
But my first visit to Gransnet has proved a delight.
I agree with all of you. And I love that all of these comments could be made by me.
And I do really like being older.......'cos I don't give a sh*t.

GrannyTunnocks Mon 09-May-11 17:27:54

This is such a good topic. I`ve had such a laugh. I have the same problem as Rossi with reading glasses. Also lots of other things posters have said. I got a card when I retired and it said enjoy your retirement, relax and have fun. That is exactly what I am doing. Now I have gransnet to enjoy.

Grossi Mon 09-May-11 17:17:13

Read without reading glasses sad

Focus more than two feet in front of me if I AM wearing my reading glasses.

toothfairy Mon 09-May-11 17:06:37

AlterEgo Mon 09-May-11 16:35:34

* Wear jeans
* Wear tights
* Wear synthetic fabrics or wool
* Wear a bikini
* Get drunk
* Take any flack
* Feel guilty
* Hold a grudge

And my kids aren't even teenagers yet !

First three - basically I'm too old to be uncomfortable in my clothes
Bikini - not once you've had kids ?
Get drunk - know your limits !
Last three - Older and wiser wink

milliej Mon 09-May-11 16:03:42

But a great sense of humour and acceptance of who we are......smile.

Glad it's not just me with many of the above! Can't believe I used to wear thee inch winklepicker high heels in the '60s and now anything over one inch is just so uncomfortable! Thats it though isn't it? Comfort before fashion, thank goodness it only takes me two minutes to do my hair now whereas it used to take about half an hour lolol.

There are distinct advantages to being older I have found.

annie33 Mon 09-May-11 15:58:45

If I had to write what I cant do now ,I would be here for a week, my latest think to give up was mascara, I kept sticking the brush in my eyes, forgetting I had it on and rubbing my eyes and when I looked in the mirror... a ghoul was looking at me.Oh yes and now I cant spell!

I don't think about what I can't do I am just thankful for what I can...I am enjoying just being and not being responsible for anyone else... I cannot believe how liberated I feel and sometimes I don't talk with anyone for days ... as for the moon cup what a brilliant idea they are however not menstruating is a massive bonus and being retired is another...

mickey Mon 09-May-11 15:22:08

I am far too old and unfit to do more than 2 yoga exercises from a book which says it will make you younger-ha ha-they make me feel about 90.I am too old to think I will come out of the hairdressers looking better than when I went in-I usually look miles worse. I am too old to think make up will improve me.So what.

joycemw Mon 09-May-11 14:54:55

when my periods stopped i said thank god i hated them

Myfanwy Mon 09-May-11 14:50:29

Re the Mooncup, I have the dubious honour of being one of the first to sell the infamous sponge tampon (Organic, Grit-free! Natural, Washable, Cheap). If you want to know how effective they were, soak a sponge in water then sit on it. Oh Dear. It was the year of the cruel white trouser, I seem to recall.

Mind you, they'd have been useful in one of my many campaigns-that-never -were, particularly the "Lets bleed unrestrainedly at work, on buses and throughout the home until they give us free sanitary wear" protest which failed to attract any takers. I still wonder why.

Doris Mon 09-May-11 14:43:01

Supernana and struggling with 'girdles' reminded me of when I was 16 in the middle 60's and couldn't wait until we bought our first girdle - that meant we had ' grown up' and absolutely nothing to do with shoving it all in and creating a shape! How stupid was that?!

jimswifein1964 Mon 09-May-11 14:42:32

glassortwo, pmsl at your wit grin

Def too old for shorts, bikinis, friday or saturday nights out when all the teenagers are prancing around short skirts.
