slinky - those threads drive me mad too! I do usually pile in and point out how ageist they're being, but I doubt anyone really takes any notice

I've been using Mumsnet for a while now and will continue as I like it there too.

However I some times feel as though I am on another planet when someone there asks "I 28, am I too old to wear a mini skirt?"

I mean, 28....too old???

I find things like that happen a lot and wonder how they'll cope when they are my age, 61.

I still feel as if I'm in my twenties and don't expect things to change anytime soon.

Nice to meet new people here. Hello to you all.

Hello - just found this forum when reading The Guardian online. I'm from West Yorkshire, and have lived in Australia since 1979, where the ageism problems are just the same.

Not yet a gran, but both our sons, aged 29 and 32 are getting married this year to lovely girls, so it shouldn't be long. One future DIL is a Cantonese/Australian so I'll have an Asian side to my family - couldn't be more pleased. The other lad is marrying a girl of Dutch parentage, so we will be very multicultural.

All my friends have grandchildren, and I'm sure we will soon.....
