This is interesting. What do you think of the John Lewis advert, bearing in mind that they are usually the first of the big stores to start cashing in early on Christmas?

I like the twist in the story of this advert I think it is sweet smile

jingl Wed 23-Nov-11 17:01:49

Well, yes. I like it.

My point is they are being all smarmsy and "ah, isn't it sweet", when really they are just trying to make as much quick profit out of Christmas as they can. hmm

Oh, never mind!

jingl Wed 23-Nov-11 17:02:43

It's just a bit hypocritical.

Oh, what isn't these days. [grump emoticon}

jingle Let's take a vote for a grump emoticon
It could be me - or it could be that the long-winded, smarmy and patronising dawdle-up to Christams has given me the proverbial pip!
And while I'm having a grump - are there GN who rush out to buy the fragrances as advertised by the grumpy, mopey-faced, apparently sex-starved individuals in the adverts? I'm curious hmm

jingl Wed 23-Nov-11 17:13:13

I'm not asking for any more emoticons Super.

You ask. Go on!

Do it now!

supernana Wed 23-Nov-11 17:16:39

Josie...Jingle has asked me to be brave and ask you for a grump emoticon PLEASE

jingl Wed 23-Nov-11 17:26:20

No - it's Geraldine you need to ask.

I've put a thread out ready for you. smile

jingl Wed 23-Nov-11 17:31:05

I like the "dawdle up" Super. grin

supernana Wed 23-Nov-11 18:31:45

jingle thanks for rescuing me. Who on earth is Josie? A most embarrassing faux wotsit!

jingl Wed 23-Nov-11 18:37:28

Oh, it's ok! Josi is another one of them. She is a little bit overworked though, I think.

Geraldine's not.

We had Halloween emoticons - can we have Christmas ones with Santa hats please??
PS I like the John Lewis advert - I don't care how commercial and cynical it might be, no TV commercial is different in that respect, but some are more watchable than others.

jingl Wed 23-Nov-11 22:08:42

True. smile

glammanana Wed 23-Nov-11 22:55:30

I read an article about the little boy in the ad,his name is Lewis and he lives in Glasgow, his father was auditioned to play the father in the advert and was refused as they did not look alike,I love the advert and think it is the best of all the Christmas ads that are on at the moment, with the exception of Coca Cola which I have liked for years all the lights on the truck and big laughing Santa on the tailgate fab !!

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 23-Nov-11 22:58:16

Grump may take a while - we're still working out who to model it on. Auditions aplenty at GNHQ. Christmas emoticons? If we can do Halloween we can most certainly do Santa. We are knitting the mini hats as fast as we can. Watch this space

All ideas for what an grump emoticon might look like most welcome...

(I have just got up off my chaise longue for five minutes to respond to this. Off now to have my mid-morning glass of champagne and massage.)

JosieGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 24-Nov-11 09:59:34

Piling in to prove I exist!

(Message would be longer but too busy getting the massage table and champagne glasses ready grin)

If you want an idea for a Grump Emoticon Geraldine just take a look at Mr.G this morning (it's his BIG birthday) grin

GoldenGran Thu 24-Nov-11 10:46:26

Gallygrin Say Happy Birthday to Mr.G.

jingl Thu 24-Nov-11 10:49:35

He he he! I don't feel grumpy any more after that. grin smile

jingl Thu 24-Nov-11 10:51:01

glamma - that is so funny, about the boy not looking like his father!

Bet that put the cat amongst the pigeons! grin

Annobel Thu 24-Nov-11 11:54:11

I must have a look at this ad. Usually I record and the fast forward over them so they have no impact on me at all.

Annobel Thu 24-Nov-11 11:56:57

Ah, yes, heartstrings now well and truly tugged!

Stansgran Thu 24-Nov-11 19:06:36

But what's in the box?-I think it's a horse's head and I am sure John Lewis don't sell them.
