My SIL has this condition, he has regular blood tests and has blood taken when necessary.
The blood used to be destroyed but they now have developed a way of removing the excess iron so that his blood can be used for transfusion.
He has other close relatives with the condition.

My son has it too, a surprise gift from my Irish mother which bypassed me and my daughter. Monthly blood donation (he is 0 negative) seems to manage the condition, picked up when he had a major health check at 50. Doesn’t seem to cause any problems.

Not me but several members of my family have it, all female including my sister. I’m not aware of it causing any great problems.

It’s called the ‘Celtic’ disease. My sister ( one of 8 children) has it, my brother and his daughter carry the gene. I’ve not been gene tested but my ferritin levels are normal. I am Scottish with a lot of Irish ancestry. My sister has her levels tested and has vivisection when needed - once or twice a year. I think her diet has low iron content - less red meat, some veggies. No great health issues with it.
