Why are men proud and admit it, and women are embarrassed and deny it?

Carol Sat 31-Dec-11 11:56:40

Yes they do crimson.

crimson Sat 31-Dec-11 12:10:18

Rats! Another money making scheme down the drain....

When I was about 14, by best friend found a book in her parents' bedroom: "Love and Marriage" by Dr Eustace Chesser, carefully covered in brown paper. She sneaked it out. We used to hide away and read it together. It was a very clinical volume, and I actually think it mystified more than educated us.

I do remember, though, a section on masturbation - the gist of which, for women, was that if you did, you'd never reach a "real" orgasm. Scary to think of now, but since we didn't have a clue what masturbation was, it meant little!

helshea Sat 31-Dec-11 13:02:56

Steering my way back to the original subject - I say without any guilt or shame.. "I do" ..... you can't expect anyone else to know what pleases you if you don't know yourself, besides i don't put myself off at the vital moment!

petallus Sat 31-Dec-11 13:17:59

And you don't have to dress up for it! smile

helshea Sat 31-Dec-11 13:24:35

No petallus you don't - but you can if you want to wink

Carol Sat 31-Dec-11 13:27:07

Grown-up women know how to take care of their own sexual needs without having to look for a partner x

helshea Sat 31-Dec-11 13:32:48

Full body orgasms apparently are very rare with a partner, and very common without! - just something I read somewhere!

helshea Sat 31-Dec-11 13:54:36

Hey I think I better go back into my shed for another few months.. I fear I have returned and lowered the tone! wink

Carol Sat 31-Dec-11 13:57:04

No you haven't helshea. The tone took a definite dip quite a few postings ago! Keep 'em coming oops!

JessM Sat 31-Dec-11 14:30:09

smile Carol!

helshea Sat 31-Dec-11 14:33:32

I'll second that Jess.. CAROL!! wink

Annika Sat 31-Dec-11 15:29:20

crimson were you thinking we could knit these male `vibrators` as the grannies in the shreddies ad knit shreddies ??? grin
Just to add to JessM and helshea CAROL
Never thought I would be here `talking ` about female masturbation while DH is watching The Muppets Christmas Carol that he had recorded a few days ago but ....... maybe that is why there is such a thing as female masturbation hmm

crimson Sat 31-Dec-11 15:31:46

Not knitting, Annika, but remember I'm pretty good with string and sticky back plastic.....

Annika Sat 31-Dec-11 15:38:02

crimson grin

nanachrissy Sat 31-Dec-11 16:45:09

I just can't do it..........envy blush confused

Grannylin Sat 31-Dec-11 17:32:46

Annika that's really cheered me up, I can just picture it!

greenmossgiel Sat 31-Dec-11 17:42:01

I'm sitting here trying to think about something funny to write that isn't too rude....my husband and his friend are discussing how they used to drive their lorries when still at work. If they only knew what was on this screen.....blushwink

crimson Sat 31-Dec-11 17:47:13

They sure have interesting conversations..men sad. Have to admit that the only man in my life who gave me a great time in the bedroom department was one who I felt totally relaxed with, and [this is the important bit] made me laugh. I wonder how many men would think of looking on granset to find out how to keep their partners happy?

JessM Sat 31-Dec-11 17:58:59

nannachrissy - am i presuming that you are not talking about knitting here. The answer in that case is electronic. There are probably millions of women that learn to have orgasms with the help of a vibrator and millions more that only ever have one with the aid of a vibrator. Or a shower head. The kind that come off the wall smile Unless you are a pretty adept gymnast. smile

greenmossgiel Sat 31-Dec-11 18:00:35

They wouldn't have the imagination to realise that it may apply to them, probably, crimson! grin

I am intrigued by the idea that all this paraphanalia and learning might be needed to do the business - just give me a good bloke any time and I am away! - and 'twas ever thus!
My Mum gave me a book on how fruit flies reproduce by way of sex education - it lacked something really!
My children had some interesting books - the best being a Scandinavian book called Our New Baby, which was in the form of a comic strip that followed the life of a family who were to have a new baby - all the questions were answered with great charm (and they did not dodge the idea that sex was a pleasurable activity rather than a reproductive chore) and it was grounded in secure loving relationships which were part of the story. And the children in the book asked their parents questions which were answered very clearly anatomically, but also in the context of a relationship. It was a very good book - the children always got it out when their grandma offered to read them a book and she would look at me in despair! One of my offspring was particularly popular at school as she kept everyone informed!

Not everyone has a loving and sensitive partners, so DIY is necessary. I believe sitting on the washing machine on the spin cycle is quite good!
The clitoris is not the little button that protrudes - it is quite a large organ which has been much neglected and misunderstood because most of it is buried.
I hated D.H. Lawrence's description of sex - apparently Mellors took it badly because Lady Constance did it for herself - apparently Lawrence expected women to lie back and be ''pleasured'. B*ugger that for a game of soldiers!

nanachrissy Sat 31-Dec-11 22:17:32

I have tried everything and the only "thing" that works for me is the real thing! I'm with you there Mishap.
Not just any old thing will do, it has to be of generous proportions!

I don't want to be accused of lowering the tone any further, so I will say no more! wink

Oxon70 Sat 31-Dec-11 22:32:02

Anyone see the programme - I think it was on Yesterday - about the wartime doctor who told the WAAF (I think) women how to DIY?
