I honestly don't see any of the failings you have noticed in the DM, Greatnan - racism, homophobia or sexism. I'm not defending any of the daily newspapers, they all have their own agendas and leanings, but I do read a lot of them online. I respect your views, and am of course entitled to mine!

No need for anyone to get het up about this - I don't look down on anyone for reading a particular paper, much as I dislike the barely concealed racism, sexism and homophobia of the DM. MY contempt is reserved for the publishers and of course that extends to the Murdoch empire as well.
I am entitled to my opinion of newspapers and I don't make personal remarks about other members.

I have stopped getting a newspaper now to save a little cash, but when I did have one, it was the Daily Mail, mainly because I liked the crossword and puzzles.
Greatnan, the pictures of scantily clad women are mainly confined to the online Mail, and were not often in the printed copy.

Well said, POGS. It is a form of snobbery to look down on someone because of which newspaper they read. I would hate to be limited to The Times, for example - thank goodness for online newspapers! You don't even have to buy one any more.

Wow I am in for it here. I am a Daily Mail reader, what a cow I am. I am not interested in what any of you read particularly, at least you think. It is quite worrying how small minded people become when they tell someone they should be ashamed of themselves for reading this paper or that. Newspapers are a business for goodness sake. Do we really think we should all read the same newspapers, we might as well limit ourselves to reading the little red book and nothing else.

To produce a paper is'nt it obvious you hold a certain belief to be able to write in the first place. You would'nt expect the Pope to tell everyone to convert to Islam so why should a newspaper not stick to it's own beliefs. I would be very concerned if I agreed with every article I read. I don't get my knowledge from just reading a paper, I would need to look long and hard at myself if I did. We should be greatful we have such a diverse and free press irrespective of wether or not it follows our own thoughts and opinions.

I think the so -called intellectual papers have been a little disingenuous over the phone hacking, people in glass houses and all that. That goes for the T.V. as well. How do we all think they get their stories for documentaries, from Wikileaks.

Tabloids, including DM print lies without a qualm. I have stood next to my DH while he talked to a DM reporter who rang him about a planned story. "If you print that it will be a lie"said DH. But they did. Look at the stories they made up about the McCanns as well.
Broadsheets have a political agenda of one kind and another but generally I think they at least print versions of truth, with their own slant.

nannym - I read most UK papers on line every day. I find the DM amusing . It is fun to see how they can twist a story to fit their own agenda.
Single mothers are a particular bete noir - if they go out to work they are neglecting their children. If they stay at home they are benefit scroungers (unless they are rich and famous, of course). Immigrants, of course, are an easy target -they take jobs and clutter up schools.
Have you not noticed their penchant for showing as many half-dressed women as possible, for no apparent newsworthy reason? At least The Sun is honest about displaying Page 3 girls for the titillation of readers.

Greatnan if you dislike the paper so much why do you continue to look at it? Obviously I can only speak for myself, but I find that if something irritates me I do not keep going back to it, and I presume that you do, bearing in mind your comments about "Every story including the cost of the witness's/victim's home". I would understand if it was the only publication available to you, but as this is not the case I am puzzled.
