Airbnb new rules - can't ask guests to wash up!

So, what do grans think about the new Airbnb rules saying that it is unreasonable to ask guests to do their own washing up or pick up their own dog mess?
I thought that the whole concept of self-catering included things like this.

My sister takes her Dyson and hoovers before she leaves. She also picks up after her dogs.
Apparently there is a site where owners can leave reports about their guests. She must have 5stars!

Surely AirBnB means self-catering?

One of the rules states:
"Unauthorized Entry: Hosts cannot enter private spaces or the rented property during a reservation without the guest's explicit permission, except in a true emergency."

So who is supposed to do the washing up, take out the rubbish?

I think the argument is that Airbnb hosts are asking guests to wash up , strip beds and take out rubbish and are still charging a cleaning fee .
Personally I think it’s a way of reducing Airbnbs presence . Some cities and towns have banned Airbnbs as it’s affecting the locals . In places like Cornwall locals struggle to find properties to rent long term as hosts make more money on holiday and short term rentals .

Yes, I would like to see less air B&B and more housing for local people. The new rules might encourage those owning air B&B to sell up.

Agree with more homes for locals.

It is Airbnb themselves who are bringing these rules in!

We have a holiday let, we expect that guests would not leave washing up, the dishwasher is often left to empty but that’s fine.

We also ask guests to strip beds if they have time, this is to give the beds time to air before housekeeping come in.

When I go back to Wales I stay in a lovely little Airbnb . I don’t have to take the rubbish out only put it in bins provided and it’s taken out when cleaned. I also am not expected to strip the bed. However I do wash up the morning I leave I don’t think it fair to leave dirty dishes on the side and I leave it all tidy.

When I arrive it is spotless and I have got to know the owner, I’ve been staying several times a year for quite a long time. She refurbishes regularly and leaves complimentary breakfast items in the fridge so I feel it is a real bargain and a lovely place to stay

That’s utterly ridiculous.

Whenever and wherever we stay in self catering accommodation, with or without our dear spaniel, we always do a thorough clean on the last day, including stripping the beds, washing and drying and putting away all dishes etc, hoovering and a clean of counters.

Doesn’t everyone?

We sometimes rent a cottage - the same one each time - in our favourite holiday place. We always wash up. I usually strip the bed and often put the bedding and towels in the washing machine and set it going. Sometime we vacuum round as well.

We know that the owners also work at other jobs, so giving a little help at the end of our holiday only seems polite.

Well I do the same Cossy 👏👏👍
In fact, I usually do a clean up when I arrive as well 🤣

I haven't done AirB&B, but self catering quite often. The expectation is to strip beds, leave towels in shower or bath for collection, dirty crockery in the dishwasher and put away in cupboards, pans washed and put away when clean and dry, take out rubbish. Generally leave the place tidy. Deep cleaning is up to the owners though. Exit time is generally around 10 am not enough time to put towels and linen in the washing machine. The instruction for those is that they will be collected and laundered by owners, or the cleaners.
