I would bring back Capital Punishment, build more prisons, have zero tolerance for certain crimes. Get rid of Human Rights Bill so illegal immigrants can't hide behind it.

We all have our 'off days'...hmm

Greatnan Wed 11-Apr-12 13:17:49

Soop - that sounds really painful - are you having some treatment?

SOOP Wed 11-Apr-12 13:12:55

wotsa I wanna vomit 'emoticon' suggests otherwise. There you go, as they say. Perhaps I'm feeling ratty thanks to jippy swollen leg syndrome.

wotsamashedupjingl Wed 11-Apr-12 13:06:07

No. Group hug. smile

SOOP Wed 11-Apr-12 12:59:13

wotsama

I was being flippant. Are you losing your sense of humour or wot? confused

wotsamashedupjingl Wed 11-Apr-12 12:58:14

That's quite funny, when you click on that blue "emoticon" there!

wotsamashedupjingl Wed 11-Apr-12 12:57:19

Actually, I meant finger down throat emoticon! grin

I'm going outside now! grin

wotsamashedupjingl Wed 11-Apr-12 12:56:29

How did that happen?!

tongue down throat emoticon (is what I meant)

Carol I agree. We are wonderful, witty, warm and wise. wink

Carol Wed 11-Apr-12 12:31:14

Another happy day on Gransnet! I love dropping in to find Jingle gently winding people up, Greatnan arguing debating serious issues, Glass cajoling us to eat properly, Bags popping in to philosophise and retreat to the garden and cubs duties, and Annobel smoothing troubled waters.

Where else would you get this brilliant mix of wise and wonderful women? smile

SOOP Wed 11-Apr-12 12:30:46

Greatnan grin

Greatnan Wed 11-Apr-12 12:19:28

Argue? Moi? You must be thinking of a different Greatnan. I just engage in debate.

wotsamashedupjingl Wed 11-Apr-12 12:17:52

That IS serious!

And it's all you're gonna get from me to argue with. smile

Greatnan Wed 11-Apr-12 12:16:42

And what would you do, seriously, jingle?

wotsamashedupjingl Wed 11-Apr-12 12:15:44

And sod the rest of the country. smile

wotsamashedupjingl Wed 11-Apr-12 12:14:42

If I was prime minister I would go and have a nice, very long, holiday at Chequers and be waited on hand and foot by the staff, while I had all the garden to myself. And they would light me lovely log fires in the evenings and clean the grate out next day.

Aaaah!!!

Dream on.

I take it the word 'judgemental' is used pejoratively. How can you have an opinion on anything without making a judgement.
I am extremely judgemental about racism, sexism and homophobia. I am not accusing any member of GN of being guilty of those attitudes.
It is not a crime to read any particular newspaper, or to hold views about the value of that publication.

harrigran Wed 11-Apr-12 12:06:39

Is it a crime to read the Daily Mail Greatnan ? then I am guilty too and I think tattoos are common. It takes all sorts to make a world, don't be so judgemental.

Carol Wed 11-Apr-12 11:39:43

We would just reproduce but not register the births of children. Thank goodness for working immigrants - they are helping us to keep (just) afloat!

Greatnan Wed 11-Apr-12 11:34:16

No, much as I fear interference from religious organisations, I would never restrict anyone's right to believe or worship.

The UK , in common with many European countries, is suffering from the problem of an ageing population. If you achieved zero population growth there would be nobody to work or care for the older people. At the moment, I gather population growth is mainly via immigration and looking at the way most Asian immigrants work and their children's take up of higher education, I see that as no bad thing. (Sorry, ninnynanny!).

Encouraging people to plan their families is fine in theory, but I fear that any compulsion would hugely infringe the rights of citizens, especially women.

Faye Wed 11-Apr-12 11:19:45

While I am still Prime Minister Anagram I might ban meat and religion! grin

Anagram Wed 11-Apr-12 11:06:26

Zero Population Faye shock. Seems a bit drastic....wink

Faye Wed 11-Apr-12 11:04:55

For starters I would get rid of Free Trade. I would also encourage Zero Population. All children would have a decent education. As for Capital Punishment, definitely not while I am Prime Minister!!!!!

Annika Wed 11-Apr-12 10:59:54

I would make it law that when a politician is asked a question he/she has to answer the question direct and not give us a long speech about how the pervious party got this country in the mess it is in now.
It makes me so angry the way they wriggle out of answering questions
