After leading a very active life and now at the age of 77 I have had the bad fortune during the last few months to go through a series of illnesses that have made me realise that living on my own is becoming somthing of a problem, I have some very good friends who I can call on but no close relatives. I feel I am too young at heart to go into a care home and I have wondered about sheltered accomadation or if there are other options available. At the moment I am renting from an Housing Association.

If its any help my dad moved into sheltered accomadation when he was in his 80s, he too was renting from a housing association.
He soon settled in there, he had a lovely ground floor flat with a communal garden. All the sheltered accomadation with the housing association came with built in alarms and if needed a warden can call by.
Lots of days out were organised for the residents, but dad only went on a few as he was out numbered by women at a rate of 6-1 , poor love couldn't move for them .smile
I have to say that all this was done before the last few years off goverment cuts sad, but I think you will find this a much better choice than a care home, as you say you are still young at heart.
I hope you enjoy what ever option you choose. flowers

Willcarr26 We live in a supported development of 16 apartments with a lovely communial garden area, with you living in a housing assocation property they would most probably agree to rehouse you into maybe a flat or bungalow which would suit your needs better,we have a warden who can call 5 days a week if we require it and 24 hr emergency help at the press of a button, this gives me piece of mind if I am out and about or away and mr.glamma has the help he needs if he has any problems. We also have the offer of days out but as Annika says they are dominated by women of a certain age,we hold parties and celebrations in the garden, have some of our favourite plants from our previous homes planted in the communial garden,so all in all it is a good move for us.So have a chat with your housing manager and see what is on offer, they are not what they where years ago, mine is decorated and furnished to a high standard which would compete with anything from any new homes brochure.
