I wondered if you could help. I have been a firm follower of Gordon's and Schweppes for many years but now the market for new gins seems to be expanding daily. I like Plymouth but its very strong and hence know as the 'falling down water' in this house. I recently tried Greenalls as it was on special offer but it lacked flavour. Bombay Sapphire is quite nice but the price doesn't seem to be justified. Any others you can recommend plse? Don't think I would like a flavoured on like the flavoured vodkas one sees.

My husband likes Tanqueray (sp?) No10 which I got him for Valentine's Day. The bottle is lovely too!

I love the cucumber-infused Hendricks - delish with a slice of cucumber and some fever tree tonic water. (I am a G&T addict!)

Love Fever Tree tonic and I use Bombay Sapphire.

I bought some Edinburgh Gin at the Highland Show last year - has a citrus flavour and is very enjoyable!

I'm a Bombay Sapphire follower drinker smile

I'm a gin drinker too (when I'm not on the grape) and love it with cucumber -so refreshing

Butternut Tue 24-Apr-12 17:53:43

I have never heard of having cucumber in my G&T - always have a slice of lime. So I am going to try it after all these glowing (grin) recommendations. (Lots of slices or just the one?) Wish I could get the Fever Tree Tonic here sad.

Jeni - more sunshine winging your way.....

Aha!! numberplease - Mother's Ruin it is!! I've never felt depressed after drinking gin - and ordinary Gordon's is fine for me! grin

I do like the sound of drinking Gin with a slice of cucumber I've not tried that it sounds so refreshing must give it a go,I must admit that my favourite tipple is Brandy preferably with a good coffee.grin

Perhaps change your tonic water.
Schweppes now has artificial sweetener in it.
We now use Waitrose own brand, which does not.
It is very good. And not expensive.
If you are not near a Waitrose you can buy it online through Ocado.

Yes, the Fever Tree tonic is to die for but very expensive.

Yuk! The only way that I can drink gin is in a martini. (I blame my late stepfather, dinners out often started with a Martini whilst perusing the menu.)

G&T is not my tipple.

nanachrissy Tue 24-Apr-12 18:46:59

Perfect G&T (for me anyway wink )

Large measure of preferred gin poured over ice
1/4 lime, juice squeezed in
chunk of lime
2 slices cucumber
Baby tin tonic all in (just enough)

Swizzle and drink.

Think I'm going to try that nanac! smile

DH goes for Blue Sapphire as well. He bought a bottle recently during the warm spell we had but then it turned cold normal again so he's drinking whiskey macs at the mo. I'm off alcohol just now. Don't seem to want it. More a wino when I do.

Grannylin Tue 24-Apr-12 20:00:51

I love Plymouth Gin but have it in a large tall glass with lots and lots of tonic and ice so that I don't fall over!

grannyactivist Tue 24-Apr-12 20:03:24

Never been a one for drinking spirits (was actually teetotal until in my forties) and gin especially tastes horrible to me, but I love my home-made sloe gin and I'm going to try the same recipe with damsons this year, made with bog-standard gin from Lidl.

Bags Tue 24-Apr-12 20:06:21

Mmmm. Sloe gin! Save me some, ga! I still have some cheapo gin from when I last made sloe gin several years ago (they don't grow so well near here). I use it for tick bites now — fumigate the blighters with a gin-soaked blob of cotton wool and they let go more easily grin. Disinfects the area too.

POGS Tue 24-Apr-12 20:07:28

I drink Bicardi but everytime my husband goes shopping he swears blind the check-out girl at Morrisons gives him a free bottle of gin for buying a loaf of bread, hmmmmm?

johanna Tue 24-Apr-12 20:07:38

Forgot to mention that of course, your gin must be kept in the freezer.
Makes a world of difference to your G & T.
