Scything hay. Need a break from the midges.

GoldenGran Thu 14-Jun-12 10:39:53

Grannylin well done? Where do you live? Hope you are now warm and maybe even enjoying a little sunshine without getting into freezing water. sunshine
I am doing boring chores before going on a hospital visit to my step-mother, who is recovering after a heart operation, but is not doing as well as we all hoped.

Have cut a wantonly lush bay down to a more manageable shape to make room for my vigorous Mermaid rose, and have dug up 4 bucket-fulls of stones when I also decided to dig out my verbena which wasn't thriving - now I know why!
The sun has now hit that corner so in I've come. A lovely morning! smile

Grannylin Thu 14-Jun-12 11:28:34

Wow! did I sleep well, no hip pains at all, perhaps I've found the curegrin!Live in South Devon but its definitely not sunny Devon today..its pouring relentlessly so that might be the one and only swim of the year!

soop Thu 14-Jun-12 11:42:21

Grannylin ...a painfree sleep works wonders, doesn't it? smile

Today I've been doing a grocery shop to cater for 2 DSs and 2 littlest DGDs. It reminded me of shopping for Christmas! You know, things that you do not buy normally - cereals and tomato sauce and chips and chocolate buttons...

DH is taking his classic MG to DS1 in Hampshire today, where it will stay until we move. DS1 is delighted because he gets to use it. A van is then being hired for shifting stuff at his house, then at our house, where DS2 (from Cheltenham) will be helping.

All I have to do is feed them and play with my little girls. Lovely! ( DDiLs not coming - one is an England athletics coach and is working, and the other is going to catch up with her mum and school work. I shall miss them not being here.)

Right, off to make a chocolate cake!

Butternut Thu 14-Jun-12 12:49:37

Enjoy! I can feel your excitement already, Ariadne!smile

soop Thu 14-Jun-12 13:07:09

Have lots of fun, ariadne! I'm sure you will smile

Thinking how I am going to cope with daughter who has a poorly 6 year old British Blue cat and may have to face the possibility of having her put down. An MRI scan later today will decide the cat's future - will it be a slipped disc - probably operable - or a tumour on the spine - inoperable. Why do we get so attached to pets - I say this as my cat lies sleeping at my feet now that the little mouse he brought in to play with was taken from him and put back into the garden for him to catch another day!

Anagram Thu 14-Jun-12 15:30:24

Bags! shock

Gally Thu 14-Jun-12 19:44:33

Ariadne yummy! grin Have a wonderful time with your little ones.

Today I spent 3 hours in the Dental Hospital - worth every second! My lovely neighbour, the Consultant Dental Wonder, has told me that he thinks the 2 teeth which were almost whipped out by my dentist last week, are not the cause of my problems.(TG I refused the offer of an extractionhmm) He has treated another suspect fang and told me to go away for what's left of my Cyprus trip and return to him if there is still a problem. Hurrah grin I got home on the train from Edinburgh, stuffed down a banana for my lunch and drove forthwith 15 miles in the opposite direction to pick up my dearest friend after her first dose of chemo. I sat outside the hospital for 2 1/2 hours as she had a few probs. but all well now and fingers and toes crossed. Early bed I think after all that excitement.

We spent a couple of hours this afternoon getting our French modem up and running for broadband - a downside of the iPad you must have a wifi connection so could not link to Internet with the old windup connection! All going well so far.
Will now spend an hour or so catching up here with all the postings.
Have a good evening everyone.

I have been to Swanage and back on a steam train... an other GNers on the trip??

Gally Fri 15-Jun-12 08:08:22

Today I have been making porridge for my breakfast; for heaven's sake it's the middle of June, feels like the middle of February and I feel the need to warm myself up from the inside - where's the sun? sunshine

AlieOxon Fri 15-Jun-12 09:00:07

Woke early. (Must make porridge sometime!) Had a turkey sandwich, as the meat needed eating....then decided to clean out the freezer. Many things I am passing on to my daughter with my new colitis diet....nice frozen peas...anyway I can't remember when I cleaned the drawers last!

I'm not dressed - and of course a neighbour comes to tell me my car window is a bit open - nice of her though.
I shut it - then it poured with rain!
Must get dressed next.

whenim64 Fri 15-Jun-12 09:19:55

Porridge for me too Gally. It's not a bad morning here, but feels more like November than June!

glassortwo Fri 15-Jun-12 09:26:40

Well the flame has arrived into Northumberland this morning to very heavy rain, what a shame for the schools and all the folk who are going to get a real soaking... did someone say it was June confused

whenim64 Fri 15-Jun-12 09:37:05

Off out to take Polly and Alice to the baby clinic later this morning for weighing. My daughter and I will sit there quietly enjoying the admiring glances of other mums and grandmothers with our two little sweeties. Can't help it - we know that whenever twins come in there'll be tired mums saying 'how do you manage? I can't sleep with one.' There's a lot of novelty in having twins, and so much fun! This is one of the best bits about being a nana smile

nanaej Fri 15-Jun-12 09:51:42

when smile

Cleaning today [gloomy emoticon] but will feel smug when done! [smug emoticon]

syberia Fri 15-Jun-12 14:07:21

Nursing a cold (can't remember having a cold for a long time!) and had a very "bad for me" lunch. Chocolate cake with evaporated milk! It was only a small piece, honest! It didn't make the cold go away either.
I have 3 different lots of knitting on the go, all commissions, and I can't be bothered today, maybe later. Think I might just snuggle on the sofa with my book......

nanaej Fri 15-Jun-12 14:54:44

poor you syberia
