I have been putting together a photo book for my sister for when she comes over later in the month (see Mental Illness thread) DH scanned in loads of old pictures some of them going back 65 years to when Mum and Dad were married and she was a bridesmaid (she is my half sister) . I hope she gets as much pleasure from it as I have had in the compilation!

That's lovely gracesmum. My brother, sister and I have been putting together a happy memories box for our poorly sister. We have stuck photos in an album, collected souvenirs of happy times like tickets for holidays or concenrts, and we've jotted down lots of different memories onto decorated cards (more than a hundred so far) which we've pasted into scrap books. We've found lots of things on the internet, like old haunts where we went as children and teenagers, and printed those off, too. Every week or so, we add a few more to the box. She gets it out when visitors come, and they love going through it with her, too. I have had so much enjoyment from doing it, as it's brought back so many happy memories for me.

Forgetting that there was no school today and having a big nosebleed. Good start, what?

I hope you've stopped bleeding, bags. sunshine
Have loads of washing to do but the machine is refusing to drain; I assume the pump is blocked but it's beyond me to haul the thing out and try to empty it. Was all set to ring the repairer this morning when the radio reminded me that it was a holiday. Sod's law!

jeni Mon 07-May-12 09:56:35

Could be in the hose?

Annobel Mon 07-May-12 10:07:40

Wherever it is, jeni, I can't physically pull the machine out to investigate, partly because it's full of water and therefore very heavy and partly because of my own muscular inadequacy! Why do my sons have to live so far away? sad

jeni Mon 07-May-12 10:30:29

Helpful neighbour?

specki4eyes Mon 07-May-12 15:43:43

Hope he's OK, specki? It's horrible just waiting, isn't it?

Annobel Mon 07-May-12 16:06:02

Nipped out between showers and attacked the shrub rose and the cornus mas that were overshadowing two poor little Japanese azaleas.

glassortwo Mon 07-May-12 16:08:23

My day started badly when I tipped a bowl of very hot porridge over my neck and upper chest - I was having it in bed with my laptop on my knee and it just slipped. I jumped up, ripped off my pyjama top and ran to the bathroom, where I let the cold shower run over it for about 15 minutes. Then I found a bag of frozen prawns, tipped them into a clean pillow slip and tied it round my neck and chest with a scarf. I took two paracetamol, which worked very quickly, and cleaned up all the mess. I had to wash my duvet cover and pyjamas in the bath but it has been very sunny so I was able to dry them on the balcony.
I now smell of prawns, as I don't want to wash my chest as there are a couple of blisters and tiny bits of top skin missing, The redness is fading, but I look as if I have vitiligo as porridge lands in clumps.
I had to eat a huge avocado and prawn salad as I did not want to waste the defrosted prawns!
I intended to have a restful day so I just put some trousers and a fleece over my clean pyjamas while I went down to get my mail. However, the sun and the mountain were irresistible so I did something sluttish - I just got my boots out of my car and walked for an hour.
I feel fine now, but I will have to wash carefully with a face-cloth tomorrow as I don't want to burst the blisters. The pharmacy will be shut for bank holiday but I don't think I need a dressing as the skinned bits seem to have dried - I think I heal easily.
I will eat my porridge at the table tomorrow!

jeni Mon 07-May-12 18:25:32

Oh dear!
Hope you're ok tomorrow!
How's the laptop?

greenmossgiel Mon 07-May-12 18:29:36

speki, I hope you have good news by now - (and I'm sorry that I read your post wrongly, thinking it was your daughter that was in hospital). flowers

Greatnan Mon 07-May-12 18:39:17

Not a drop on the laptop, thanks Jeni!
I have been well told off by friends on Facebook for eating in bed!

jeni Mon 07-May-12 18:43:05

Skin heals on its own. Laptops cost money!

Anagram Mon 07-May-12 18:43:28

What a good job you're so quick-thinking, Greatnan! It sounds as though you were lucky to escape with minimal damage, thanks to your cold-shower treatment. You'd be amazed how many people still think that's the wrong thing to do.

smile

Greatnan Mon 07-May-12 18:45:34

I know a lot of people still fry themselves by putting butter or oil on a burn or scald!

greenmossgiel Mon 07-May-12 18:53:36

Greatnan, you'll be hurting tonight at bedtime, probably. OOOh hot porridge - ouch! sad (As Anagram commented, not everyone thinks to do what you did with the water!)
